I had heard an review on National Public Radio and since my husband is a big blues fan, I thought I'd try it. This was a wonderful surprise! We love the CD and would recommend it to anyone - whether they are a major blues fan or not.

I stumbled upon Janiva's music when Alligator records sent me the opportunity to buy a autographed copy of a about to be released CD by Janiva Magness called "what love will do". I read some reviews and thought I'll check her out. When I placed her CD on after arrival I almost fell out of my chair. I was a resident of The French Quarter of New Orleans for years and have heard great female Blues singers, Etta James is the best of this generation I had thought, my all time favorite, Now Janiva Magness stands next to Etta, she is a good, as inspirational,great to listen to, witty and just one fine Blues Artist I now own every one of Janiva's CD's and am waiting anxiously for her next release. This is a great cd, lots of wonderful blues from a rare talent. If you get a chance to see her live, go. She was "2006 Female Comtemporary Blues Artist of the Year" for a good reason.

Willie's collaborations don't always appeal to me, but this one does. It's a great blend of musicians, and a joy to listen to. A real hit.

Excellent CD, not her very best in my opinion but it's excellent in that there isn't a single tune on the CD you don't want to hear again. I just dislike CD's where there's a song on it that you just wonder why it ever got recorded. Very good, still a Marcia Ball fan!

If you don't know Emmylou Harris at all, buy anything she's ever done. The worst that you'll get is really good. This album is lovely, if low-key and sad. There is a strain of American music - the only authentic strain aside from Afro-American - embodied in country, folk and some rock based on the former two that is heart-piercing, but absolutely lovely. And Emmylou Harris - who defies labels - does it best of all (though her version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" - elsewhere - rocks with a kind of tough cynicism that the Broadway showtune never had.) I've seen her up close in a small concert and she is the very epitome of grace, modesty and beauty. This CD was a total impulse buy for me--I had never even heard of Jeff Healey before. But I saw it in a separate display case in the store, it looked interesting, and I hadn't listened to any blues in a while, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am very glad I did. There's a lot of good ol' rollicking electric blues on this disc, including interesting interpretations of "Like a Hurricane" and "Shake Rattle and Roll," which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not every song is a winner, hence the 4 stars, but this is a solid electric blues disc, highly recommended. I've already ordered another Jeff Healey CD online.
