If you don't know Emmylou Harris at all, buy anything she's ever done. The worst that you'll get is really good. This album is lovely, if low-key and sad. There is a strain of American music - the only authentic strain aside from Afro-American - embodied in country, folk and some rock based on the former two that is heart-piercing, but absolutely lovely. And Emmylou Harris - who defies labels - does it best of all (though her version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" - elsewhere - rocks with a kind of tough cynicism that the Broadway showtune never had.) Now, I LOVE Randy Newman, but it has happened before, some of his older albums were simply generic blues... sounds all the same, and none of it very interesting. But, going back twenty years or so, with the "Born Again" Album, "Trouble in Paradise", "Little Criminals", and especially "Land of Dreams" we were given really very good MUSIC. I play piano myself, and at least one or two songs per Album were fun to play. Not like all his earlier stuff, just stupid drug soaked sorry for yourself minority Blues. Besides, Newman is no Black. The man could be a Banker if he wanted. Playing that thick lipped Blues style, pretending to be so dizzy ... I should hope he is just trying to kid somebody. I AM one of those people who look forward to Taylor's new releases. But this one just didn't do it for me. He's done a great job with covers over the years, but with the exception on one track on this release, I thought he just didn't bring anything new to these.

Listening to this new CD takes me back to the "rocker" days of my youth. I loved it and often put it in a 6 CD rotation with Delbert, Willie and Ray Charles!!!

I purchased this CD for the song with Corinne Bailey Rae, but I got so much more. Al Green had songs with Anthony Hamilton and John Legend as well. I don't think I would call this classic Al Green,(though some of the beats reminded me of some of his former songs),but I believe Mr. Green has put his signature on today's music. I absolutely love this CD-I play it almost every day. Of course, most of the songs are love songs, with the kind of words women want to hear. This is a "sittin' on the back porch, in the evening, with a glass of lemonaid", CD.

Moment of Forever is the most solid album by Willie Nelson in many many years. This is on par with some of Johnny Cash's late work with Rick Rubin and provides more evidence that some artists just get better with age. Nelson's voice is as good as ever and has a richness and depth that some of his more recent works haven't had. His pairing with new-country idol, Kenny Chesney seems to have breathed new life into Willie. There isn't a bad track on the album, but my favorite, by far, is his cover of Bob Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody". As a Dylan fanatic I must admit that Willie's version is better than Dylan's version. So soulful and heartfelt. Willie also strikes gold with his cover of "Gravedigger". After three great recordings in a row, something less than wicked this way comes, cliched and dreary . The presence of the 'guest artists' is a sure sign that the well's run dry. If this is what domestic bliss leads to, one can only - ungenerously - hope Lucinda's newfound serenity is short lived.
