Kind of like wildflowers, but with a 70's sound. YEP!! 70's sound. I really think though, tom petty should stick to the HEART-BREAKERS and a new CD. AS WELL AS A GR. HITS #2. We need more albums with those GUYS. There getting old, don't waste there time , not makeing new albums. ALSO : To TOM PETTY.....Make a remake of the song " BROWN EYED GIRL ( Van-morrison ) ".............And put it on your next album...THAT SONG FITS YOUR STYLE and it would sound awsome with your voise.....REALLY.

The first time I was introduced to Lizz Wright was on the Sunday Morning show's music review. I was mesmerized. Her voice is raw emotion, sultry, and rich in tones. The Orchard is excellent, especially song #4 (Hey Mann) and #12 (Strange).

Too Long in the Wasteland, indeed. James McMurtry's scathing collection of character sketches blisters as an indictment of the last eight years, commenting on greed ("God Bless America"), the downtrodden and left behind ("Fireline Road) and the chimp in chief himself ("Cheney's Toy'). It's likely the most political album you'll hear this year outside of punk rock (New Wave, The Bright Lights of America), and digs deeply into McMurtry's Lou Reed by way of Texas singing style.

As usually for McMurtry, the lyrics are hyper-literate. Take this example from the down-on-his-luck man waiting out the storm in "Hurricane Party":

Now there's water up past the wheel wells of my
Ford and I don't guess that it'll run.
But I left a pack of Winston's on the dash,
could ... Read More

One of the best albums of 2008 if not the last 20 years. It kinda reminds me of the spirit of Billy Joe Shaver singing Robert Johnson songs backed by Roy Rogers. You gotta have this one in your collection.

Now, I LOVE Randy Newman, but it has happened before, some of his older albums were simply generic blues... sounds all the same, and none of it very interesting.

But, going back twenty years or so, with the "Born Again" Album, "Trouble in Paradise", "Little Criminals", and especially "Land of Dreams" we were given really very good MUSIC. I play piano myself, and at least one or two songs per Album were fun to play. Not like all his earlier stuff, just stupid drug soaked sorry for yourself minority Blues. Besides, Newman is no Black. The man could be a Banker if he wanted. Playing that thick lipped Blues style, pretending to be so dizzy ... I should hope he is just trying to kid somebody.

And here, in "Harps & Angels" Newman has returned to his earliest primitive style, ... Read More

This album is a deserving purchase for any hipster that holds fast to his opinion that he / she knows the real deal. Very impressed. There is no need to partake in a detailed evaluation of the music on "Little Rock". I hold fast that competition is a sin within the art of music. To me, simple appreciation holds the candle to light the way, and this is truly an album to appreciate and enjoy. Enough said. Good luck Hayes.

If you don't know Emmylou Harris at all, buy anything she's ever done. The worst that you'll get is really good. This album is lovely, if low-key and sad. There is a strain of American music - the only authentic strain aside from Afro-American - embodied in country, folk and some rock based on the former two that is heart-piercing, but absolutely lovely. And Emmylou Harris - who defies labels - does it best of all (though her version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" - elsewhere - rocks with a kind of tough cynicism that the Broadway showtune never had.) I've seen her up close in a small concert and she is the very epitome of grace, modesty and beauty. I've been playing this disk for months in my waiting room, and client after client has been struck and asked me about it and her (and Juanes too, but that's another ... Read More

After three great recordings in a row, something less than wicked this way comes, cliched and dreary . The presence of the 'guest artists' is a sure sign that the well's run dry. If this is what domestic bliss leads to, one can only - ungenerously - hope Lucinda's newfound serenity is short lived.

This is a fantastic album. Justin has an amazing voice, at times reminiscent of his dad, Steve Earle. For the most part, though, Justin has his own style, which is fun, beautiful, and unique. A combination of fast-paced, exciting songs and slower, relaxed numbers. The album as a whole comes together very well. I highly recommend it for any fan of Americana, roots country, bluegrass, or folk.
