All bulbs flicker and make cracking sounds, even when left on for a long time.

I find these bulbs to be very bright and a great value, they do appear to me to be a bit on the yellow side though. They are a bit slow to start, that is to get to full brightness. It takes about 1 to 2 seconds for them to initially light, and another 30 seconds or so to be fully lit. Getting these new bulbs also got me around to FINALLY cleaning the lamp shades and globes:-)!

I bought a few of these to replace the bulbs in my bathroom. What I really love about these bulbs is that they slowly get brighter and within 30seconds they are at their brightest. Granted they aren't the brightest bulbs like the conventional ones, but they are bright enough for the bathroom. I'm so happy with these bulbs because I get up at 630am for work and the last thing I need are bright lights when I still haven't "woken up yet." They start off dim and work there way to bright. My eyes easily get used to the lights when they are at their brightest. I did notice after having them for a full month for my electric bill, the bill was slightly lower so that's a plus. I will be returning these bulbs. I have about 20 light fixtures in my house that use floodlights. With incandescent bulbs, these fixtures bring a certain "light quality" to vaulted ceilings, hallways, accents in bay windows, etc. These bulbs do not measure up to incandescent lighting. The color temperature is stark--I put two of these into a short hallway, near where some other can lights contain incandescent bulbs. The different in color temperature is quite striking--these put out a very white light--so white I feel that the hallway is in a commercial building. I bought ten of these to replace the 40W bulbs in my chandelier. Here are a few important observations: - Life: I bought them less than a year ago. One bulb is already dead, even though the light is on only in the day when someone is in the room. Assuming it's on a max of 16hrs/day, the bulb should last over 1 year at its 8000hr rating. I find it odd that the box says it is guaranteed to last up to 7 years, but averages only 8000 hours. That would mean, on average, the bulb should only be on about 3hrs/day to last all 7 years. - Size: Like many of the CFL chandelier (candelabra E12 base) bulbs out there, the size is much larger than the incandescent version. I have been trying to green our 100 year old home for years. Bulbs like this are the easy and obvious solution. They put out decent light, but it takes a few minutes for them to reach 100% brightness. For the first 30 seconds, this bulb puts out about 1/3 of the maximum brightness. This problem gets worse in the cold weather since I use these in an unheated garage. Once the bulb has "warmed up" it produces a very nice, bright light that to me is better than a standard incandescent bulb. I used one of these bulbs in my garage for 4 years before it needed replacement. That's at least 10 times longer than the standard incancesdents could last.
