Not long after Batman's arrival in Gotham City, he, Captain Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent are making slow progress in cracking the criminal empire of Carmine 'the Roman' Falcone, whose reach extendeds into seemingly every nook of the city from the alleys to the courtrooms and boardrooms. Into this a new player mysteriously enters on Halloween night, an unseen killer who comes to strike on nearly every major holiday, taking out someone else close to the Roman or his empire. The mystery of the identity of this 'Holiday killer', and the events triggered by the killings, are the main focus of The Long Halloween, while subplots involving many of Gotham's most famous denizens are woven in seamlessly.

The Long Halloween, taking a full year of comics time to unfold, ... Read More

One thing I really, truly like about Watchmen, that sets it apart from other works of superhero fiction, is the way it treats its heroes. They, on the most part, are fully aware of how silly dressing up in a theatrical costume and running around fighting crime is, and the more sane amongst them treat the enterprise as very tongue-in-cheek. With the exception of one hero they have no powers, and thus distinguishing between one hero or heroine and the next becomes highly character-driven rather than "oh he's the guy with the claws" or "oh he has the eye lasers".

Speaking of characters, the characters here are extremely well-written. Two examples:
- Rorschach is a vigilante detective with a sordid past and a rapidly deteriorating psyche. By the opening of the story he considers ... Read More

If you like Batman in the "Year One" tradition, or the Dennis O'Neil "Shaman" or Jim Starlin style then get this book. Paul Dini is great. Possibly the best Batman writer of recent times.

I can't say enough good about it. Get this and then get Batman: Death and the City

Just like Loeb/Sale's "Batman: Long Halloween" and "Batman: Dark Victory", "Batman: Haunted Knight" is another holiday themed graphic novel. It is a trio of short stories which are nothing short of amazing. In the first story, Scarecrow is prowling about Gotham on Halloween night. The second story is based around the Mad Hatter and his obsession with Lewis Carrol's "Alice and Wonderland". Finally, the third story is a batman christmas carrolesque story in which batman learns a life lesson from three spirits who take the form of people who have greatly influenced him throughout his years. ((Note: the final story is clearly meant to be like Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". At the beginning of the graphic novel it says "Ghosts based on a christmas carol"))
The artwork by Sale is amazing and as always, ... Read More

6.Batman: Death and the City by: Paul Dini, Stuart Moore, Royal McGraw, Don Kramer, Andy Clarke

: Batman: Death and the City
Paul Dini hits his stride with this second collection of his stories from Detective Comics. Again, we are let down by his pairing with artist Don Kramer, who is improving, but still learning his craft, but Dini's two part Zatanna tale and the reintroduction of Scarface still shine behind the lame artwork.
Writer Stuart Moore and artist Andy Clark produce a far better drawn two part story about Bruce Wayne being held hostage, while Royal McGraw and Marcos Marz produce a Terrible Trio story, so half the book has good art at least.
Less fill-ins and better art next time please!

first off i really liked this movie, it is a really solid telling of the justice league begining. however, if you are familiar with the justice league, have seen justice league the animated show, or are an avid comic book fan, chances are you're familiar with the characters and the stories. it's inspirational towards the end with some good leadership speeches, but again, been there. i'd say it's very much worth watching but i wouldn't buy it.

I thought it was pretty good. I guess its hard for me to get into the whole batman vs the mafia(godfather) story in both novels, but it was written so well I was addicted and flew through them.

The only complaint I could have would be that the "freaks" parts fell short. I know that we all know about their back stories and if they went deeper into the freaks it would be like retelling what we all know already, but isn't that what we all love?

I mean for me there just wasn't enough depth to the Joker, or Freeze, who both have great back stories and personality. Characters like Poison Ivy, Penguin, and Scarecrow barely had any lines. They felt more like small parts and I thought they were taken out and down way too easily. They hardly had a deep plan or sinister actions that we are used ... Read More

This is a great book indeed. It really shows a side to comics that alot of people dont see everyday in their local stores and tv shows.Only thing I found dissapointing was the fact that the book was not long enough.Im the kind of person where when I start to get lost into the story,I cant get enough and need more.Im sure alot of people would agree with me when I say that.Overall a definite must have.

Interesting read if your a fan of batman. The main story is very short however, and other provided story involving the green lantern is not very good.
