The instrument arrived well packaged in perfect condition. Exactly what I expected. I am very pleased with the features. Simply to use. The small one page "manual" that came with it is very clear. Is very important to use it with the "Power Strip Liberator" (a short cord extension) in some crowded places where could be difficult to read the screen on the instrument.

I was so happy with this book. I learned so much from it and the author is very good at explaining things to you in easy to understand terms. The author also did an excellent job of making good energy saving suggestions and ideas for home improvements. This is a book I would give to family and friends. Highly recommended. ++

My computer is plugged into the control outlet. When I standby computer all those little power suckers, modem, cordless phone, printer, battery charger, speakers, etc. are turned off. Simple and effective. I don't know if it will ever pay for itself in energy savings, but it already has in good feelings. You need one of these.

Kill-a-Watt Caution. I checked with the shipper and this cord has a lower power rating than the Kill-a-Watt you may be using it with. To avoid over-heating the cord be sure not to use with refrigerator, washer, dryer, air conditioner or other large power using appliance. Kill-a-Watt is rated 15 amps (1875 VA) and this cord is smaller, about 1/2 the amount of the Kill-a-Watt. We want you to be safe and avoid the classic "extension cord fire" from over-heating a cord.

Is essential to have this short extension cord when measuring electrical values (Amp, Watts, VoltAmperes) with instruments ( such as KillAWatt instrument) that are intended to be used plugged into electrical sockets on the wall or on Surge Protectors.

This is a great comprehensive guide. But if you're already energy conscious, there's not much new in this publication. For the general homeowner, it's definitely a must-have. Here are the most significant facts: new window replacements don't usually pay for themselves; CFL bulbs save a ton of energy and reduce carbon emissions at a low cost; front load washers save water but not much energy; your home loses energy through electrical outlets and switches; central cooling and heating is most efficient (don't use space heaters); and upgrading your central a/c and heater may be economical.

The smart strip is larger than I expected, but that is understandable with all the technology that is contained in this strip. It was very easy to setup and I just used another powerstrip plugged into one of the controlled outlets instead of buying the version of the smart strip that has more outlets. I wasn't able to get it to work with my AT&T U-Verse DVR, but just set it up to use my TV as the controller instead. I think I am going to buy these as Christmas gifts for family this year.

I've been using the standard (roughly) $25 KAW for years and love them. This newer unit is in the form of a "powerstrip" which.. includes a plug in cord, so makes it much easier to place the meter in an easy-to-read location. It also is lit, AND... unlike the original, stores the readings so you can unplug and move it around. (The traditional model, still available, resets to "zero" when unplugged.) My only hesitation is that the one I purchased was intermittently dead on usage and I had to, at my expense, ship it back to the distributor for replacement. Aside from that big annoyance and concern, I love both versions and use them frequently. (because of that hiccup I'd suggest checking the "return" policies of the store).

The only problem with this unit verses the other "liberator" device is that this unit doesn't have an extra power outlet which the other product does. With this and a 6 outlet power strip you get to use only 6 devices. With the other one, you can use 6 adapter devices and still have 6 outlets available ont he power strip so you don't have to run two power strips. I think that feature alone is worth the extra money.
