Best Buy outlets have Canon G9 on clearance for $350, which is about the max I believe you should be paying for it nowadays. The model is quickly becoming obsolete. The next generation of prosumer cameras has already entered the the market (Canon G10, Panasonic LX3, Nikon P6000, etc). So unless you get a really good deal, there are few compelling reasons to buy G9 any more. One caveat, however: if portrait taking is of importance to you, this is the area where G9 still delivers the goods (more on it later). I'm not entirely sure why there are so many conflicting reviews of a camera case, but I'll try my hand at describing what I've received. First, it should be noted that I have the SD990 IS. The case is a bit snug on this camera. I have to feed the camera's leash through the hole in the top of the case in order to have a chance at connecting the magnetic button closure. Even after feeding the leash through the top of the case, I have to press down a bit on the top of the case in order to have enough slack to button the flap. However, the camera is easy enough to get in and out of the case, and I do not feel like the camera is in danger of being damaged or scratched. Everything was great about this camera except the sound during videos. It was awful. I returned the camera.

I have had many pro cameras for many years. I wanted the ease of a point and shoot camera but with superior optics and built in software to compensate for less than perfect lighting conditions. The camera works very well, and I did not have to use any of the extra technology that the camera comes with. As with all fine cameras do not drop or sit on the camera, and buy and use the plastic film LCD screen protector to Keep the LCD from being scratched or nicked.

If you only have 600$ (I got mine for 564$) to spend I believe that this is the camera for you. Takes some awesome pictures right out of the box (provided you have a memory card). The modes on this thing are amazing - although I find myself sticking mostly to shutter and manual modes (having come from a film camera background). Prepare to be amazed at the ease of use and the freedom to carry this unit anywhere it's overall size and weight are both big enough to hold easily and light enough to bring with you anytime. If you're a casual picture taker or semi-professional - this is a great unit and you can save enough to warrant getting a lens upgrade or a flash. I enjoy this camera daily and hope that you will too.

We've had the Canon Digital Rebel XSi for a few weeks now, and I am impressed by both the quality of the pictures it produces (with the 18-55 mm IS lens), and the small footprint and light weight of this camera. We usually reserve the SLR that we are using for the more intense photo opportunities, and a good point-and-shoot for general travel usage, where its lighter weight and less cumbersome support equipment is a welcome respite for the shoulder muscles. But this XSi is really no heavier or larger than our latest Olympus point-and-shoot, so we may be rethinking our approach. The XSi is a move up for us from one of the earliest Digital Rebel camera models that came out a few years ago, mostly so we could take advantage of a better-controlled internal flash unit and the new image-stabilization lenses. This came with my Rebel XT. Made in Japan, rated at 720mAH. I also bought a generic battery (SterlingTek - made in China) for back-up. Generic battery is rated to be 1700mA. Canon's probably last 100 shots more for comparison. Pros: - A full charge usually lasts around 500 shots. Auto focusing on all the time and with a 15% flash use. - Amazingly small and light. It fits even in the smallest pocket of your camera bag. - It is Canon for your Canon. You know there is no incompatibility issue. Perfect fit. - Fast charging. 1 hour of charge will lasts you a full day of shooting. Cons: - Expensive compared to my back-up that costs almost 1/4 of the price. Both batteries still works.

It has a strap so it can be attached to your belt. It stays closed via a magnetic snap, assisted by velcro. To open the PSC-5000 case the front pulls away at the top. A small, second case comes with the package. It's about the size of a 1-1/2"" cube. It can be used to hold a spare memory card and a backup battery for the camera. The second case attaches to the side of the camera case. The case is compact and well built. I ordered this case by mistake and it was too small for my camera. I should have ordered the Canon PSC-4000 Deluxe Leather Case that is for the Canon SX10IS Digital Camera which I have. I returned the PSC-5000, but after looking it over, I was impressed and did order the PSC-4000.

I bought this camera to carry in my backpack for nature photos instead of carrying one of my DSLR's. I just downloaded some pictures I took this weekend and was very pleased with the quality of the picutres of some quail and deer I photographed. My only complaint is that the viewfinder could be a little brighter. Sutter lag isn't bad. I think I am going to love this little camera.
