This is my third (3rd) Family Tree Maker product. I have used them for several years. I now have in excess of 2,000 names in my data base. I found the new version a seamless conversion from my old version. This is one of the few software products [of any kind] that didn't disappoint me.
I am still discovering many powerful tools [by accident, as I'm 72 years old and I don't do well with instructions]that enhance family histories. I can recommend this product without any reservation to anyone.

Great product. Purchasing was easy and quick. Bought from a new vendor, but very pleased. If you buy Elements 6 there is a book called "Teach yourself visually" by Mike Wooldridge that is really simple to follow.

I needed an update guide of "How To" for citing online sources for my history research. It was better than I had hoped. It covered several types of sourecs material I had not considered. I believe it a good backup for larger style manuals.

This book is a cut above many popular genealogy "how to" books.

I'm really picky about genealogy books, and this one is excellent. Most books don't discuss carefully evaluating evidence and really thinking through problems associated with conflicting information, burned counties, brick walls etc. The "thinking" in this book and the examples of alternative sources one may not be familiar with are what is outstanding. In addition, Ms. Rising's examples are clear, easy to follow and informative, and there are many of them. Her research methods are applicable to ANY time period you are working in. I disagree with another reviewer who complained that this book won't help someone with "late" immigrant ancestors.

I'm an experienced genealogist and a trained researcher who has ... Read More

The software was quite an improvement over the previous version I had. The Amazon process for purchase and delivery went smooth. They delivered ahead of schedule. The only flaw was that 3 weeks later they dropped the price almost $20. Who knew?! I would have waited! Oh well!!

This product gets the basics done, but is somewhat cumbersome to use, and my copy did not connect to the internet like it was supposed to. I would not recommend this particular version.

DATA ENTRY IS VERY CONFUSING AND DIFFICULT. THERE IS NO 'CARD FILE' TO SEARCH FOR ONE INDIVIDUAL.

IMPORTING DATA FROM EARLIER VERSIONS MESSES THE DATA UP. MANY ITEMS ARE LOST IN THE PROCESS.

THIS WAS APPARENTLY RELEASED WELL BEFORE TRIAL RUNS.

VERY DISSAPOINTED.

I've been doing genealogy on and off for years, and haven't used FTM for a while. I've been rebuilding my family history [...] and decided it was time to get desktop software, and decided to get FTM 2009 because I figured it would make things easier to switch back and forth. Now, I've been using computers since I was a child, and am quite comfortable with them, but I am having a terrible time navigating around this software. It does not recognize sources that I linked to people in Ancestry, and keeps giving me hints for these sources. I am having to go in, person by person, and ignore all these hints so I don't have the little leaf on every single person. The help files have not been useful, and the email I sent has yet to be answered. I am having problems with merging information as well. I still find ... Read More
