I'm very disappointed with my order with Amazon. Two co-workers and I all ordered from Amazon and we all got different editions of this textbook; none of them being the most recent. I am going to send mine back.

This book at this price is a bad & cheap photocopy --- some pages are of such poor copy quality that its hard to read --no fun to read and study it at all - other than that its grossly overrated for content and presentation

I have two previous BA calculators from TI and this one is impressive in appearance and touch. Regrettably, the first function I tried failed.
The calc. has a default date value of 12-31-1990 although you can enter your own dates for number-of-days computations. The problem is that the calculator accepts the year value as two digits as in 08 and not 2008. The consequence is that I can't calculate the number of days prior to 2000 (00). How about long term bonds? The user guide and calculator delivers ERROR 6 when I attempt a four digit year. Perhaps someone knows a work around but the manual and calculator are no help discovering it. Why doesn't TI allow date inputs like Hewlett Packard: 01.011950?

I bought my HP-12C way back in december 1987, and except for replacing the batteries, it just keeps crunching out the numbers. I've had many, many calculators since late 70's and the HP-12C has been my favorite and I consider it to be the best calculator that will ever be engineered. Just my opinon..........

This is a great calculator, I've had it for about a month now.
It does have a bit of a learning curve.
I had to spend about 2 hours reading the online guide in order to learn how to use the different graphs, as well as how to work with the new menus, use RPN, and other things like solving simultaneous equations.

One thing I really like is that this calculator (unlike the TI 89) has a equation writer. If you have a large and complex equation you are able to input it in without using alot of parentheses, (()(())). You can also edit the equations inside of the equation writer. With this you have alot less mistakes and if you do make a mistake it's usually obvious that the equation doesn't look just like it should.

Many an excellent review has already been posted here, so I really won't go into much other than I've got to face facts. This is a niche manual covering a niche product. The fact that we've even GOT a manual says something to me. The fact that it's an EXCELLENT manual is even better. But the fact that we have an excellent manual supported by someone that has a passion for education and genuinely wants you to be happy with your purchase is just jaw-dropping to me. We've become so ingrained with the thought that products are disposible or accept the fact that customer service is, well, not much in the 'service' department, that when you actually receive a fair product for a fair price it's a shock in 2008.

The manual (and addendum) are worth FAR more than the price charged. Mr. Tirone ... Read More

My personal opinion is the 42s was the pinnacle of pocket sized excellence. The larger models afterwards are too big physically to be handy. I use: 42s, 35s, 48sx, 33s, Ti-89 (in order of preference). Primary use is electronic design, base conversions, using many self-coded macros/functions/programs in the calculator.

The 35s offers a "HP 42s Lite" in a way. In all, I miss the label/menu interface used on the 42s. I'll buy another 35s just in case, though, since HP seems to be drifting away from making Good Calculators, and compromising to the the "= user". The 35s is the first sign I've seen in 10 years that HP realizes the market for a True Programmable RPN Calc.

Things to note about the 35s, vis a vis 42s and other "classic" HP designs:

"Lies, damned lies, and statistics." Nassim Taleb exudes a healthy disdain for traditional "Gaussian" statistics in his popular manifesto, The Black Swan. Jaded and toughened by several years as a derivatives trader on Wall Street, Taleb emerged from the profession with unique insights on how the world is missing the boat on analyzing risk. The book is certainly eye-opening, endeavoring to make its point in so many eclectic fashions that it's best consumed in small doses. It's a bit like reading Soros. The author doesn't pretend to toe the line on traditional perspective. In fact, he embraces such a healthy admiration for himself and his contrarian idea that it pays to step back every few pages and contemplate his assertions rather than taking too much of it at face value.

To his credit, Taleb makes some ... Read More

First of all let me say that I owned an HP 19BII+ for over 16 years, what a great financial calculator, I will miss it. I have to say that the 17BII+ is also a great product, very well built, just as you expect from HP, I really do not understand earlier complaints about lower quality issues. I gave it 4 stars just because the 17 does not have the valuable unit conversion that the 19B had, otherwise it gets the job done.

Very good book, the author takes you behind the scene of Wall Street and history of the market. He goes over the basics of our economy and the different avenues of investing. This is a must read for anyone who want to start investing but is confused on where to start. I would have given this book 5 stars if he had written down a step by step process to investing. I recommend this book 1st and then read Jim Cramer's Mad Money, he gives the step by step procedures I was looking for in his book.
