The scarecrow works. That is it works under ideal circumstances. We have a lot of landscaping and wind trips it too easy. It trips so much (when no animal is nearby) that the batteries run down and it is useless when it is needed. If you have an open area that you're wanting to protect it probably will work fine. However, if you have a lot of landscaping that you are wanting to keep dogs, cats and chickens out of, you may find it to be a disappointment.

I felt compelled to review this so others won't waste their time or water with this bad product. I came home one afternoon to see water spraying out this, since the metal coupling on the bottom came uncrimped from the rubber hose. No big problem I think, maybe I just got a bad one in the batch since I'd only been using it for about 3 weeks. My setup has it always on, then electronic timers cycle twice daily after this coupler to controller sprinklers in the garden. So I returned it to the local hardware store and got a replacement. The new one worked for about 2 weeks until failing. I was picking peppers when it let go the second time around, so I at least avoided a muddy garden. I had a new neighbor in our typical residential neighborhood- houses 20 feet away from each other- who decided his 2 large dogs should be able to roam free----- and they decided my pristine yard was a great place to leave 3 or 4 lb piles of feces on....daily. This timer is easy to program and use. I've only had it for a month but it seems to work fine. I like the 6 yr warranty. Other timers have much shorter warranties and only last a few months.

This item is awesome. We've been using it to keep our kittens off of the kitchen counter when we're away. People have been telling us that you can't train kittens -- they are wrong. First off, the only reason I gave this item 4 stars is that it uses (4x) AAA batteries and does not have a DC plug-in port. The miniscarecrow seems to blow through these in a little over a month of all-day-everyday use. That said, the motion sensor works well and is tuned perfectly (for a cat size object). This sucker is truly awesome at getting rid of annoying critters. I've been able to kill wasps, mosquitos, spiders, even large crickets, altho the crickets do take more exposure to shocks than the other smaller type bugs. The weight of the handle and quality of construction will make you think twice about swinging it quickly to try and swat flies, but other than that, it's a great item and does what is says it does and slightly more. Like I said, I can kill a pretty big cricket with this thing, something I frankly know wouldn't be possible with a AAA battery model.
