I have used the [ASIN:B000ETTPCG Garmin 160C Portable Fishfinder (Dual Beam)]Garmin 160C several times now and find that it is quite easy to use and it works well not only locating fish but the constant depth reading has saved my boat being hung up in shallow water areas where I fish. The optional audible alarm that I added was a plus as well so you can hear the warning of fish and depth audibly as well as see on the screen both fish and water depth situations. Great item for the low cost!!

I was looking for a water proof GPS unit to take both tour kayaking & backpacking. Looked around for at least a year then bought this one. Having logged over 100 mi. paddled this season I can say that it works well in water. I typically mount it under the forward deck lines & secure it with a clip. No water problems so far, it's been pounded by many waves. -I'm more worried about heat from sun than the water. Having the compass navigate a course on water has come in handy, I sometimes paddle in fog or bad weather. Match my heading to the bearing of the next way point & I'm going the right way. I only had this motor out once but it performed flawlessly. We used it on a 12' aluminum boat to move from spot to spot and the boat had a combined additional weight of about 400# +-. While we did't have any luck on the fishing side, the motor more that met our expectations. Would definitely recommend it as an auxillary or an a main motor on a small lake.

As everyone else here has said, the unit is great. I just wanted to highlight that it uses A) standard AA (or NiMH) batteries B) MicroSD memory (mine came with a 128 MB card, but for $8 I bought a 2GB) C) MicroUSB cable Pretty much anything you will ever need to replace is available everywhere for cheap. It's as if the heavens above smiled on Garmin and the perfect GPS was born. I even like the turn by turn better than my TomTom.

It is on top of the T-Top and get excellent reception. I can hear out to the gulf stream from the launch, (@ 45 miles?) with no problem. I have talked to others about 10 miles away. For the money it is a good buy.

Simple GPS, good value for money for casual, no bells or whistles. WAAS has issue in software needs to be updated to version 2.5 I think, so be sure to buy a serial cable to update. Buy the garmin compatible it works and you save $30.
