I use Petmate Fresh Flow filters, but have to change them more often than the recommended month, because I have three cats. I'm sure they last longer for only one pet. They can also be removed, after turning off the water filter, and rinsed well then re-inserted. I do this sometimes when I don't have time to change the filter and clean the water fountain, but I clean and change it as close to once a week as possible. Again, with only one pet, this probably wouldn't be necessary.

We previously we had this model (the Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow) for about 2 years. The motor ran well and it never broke, so I gave the fountain itself a review of 2 stars. But these filters are terrible in comparison to the design of the Drinkwell Platinum fountain. Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain and Drinkwell Premium Replacement Filter Cartridges (3-Pack) The newer Drinkwell's filters are designed SO much better (6 tightly divided coal sections). The fabric used in the Petmate's filter loosely holds the coal and so the coal clumps down at the bottom. We also experienced a problem with the digital display within the first month. Amazon was GREAT....I just notified them and they immediately shipped out a replacement BEFORE I returned the defective one. We had it within 2-3 days. Amazon not only had the best price but the best service. We also agree with other reports that small kibble is dispensed at quantity greater than requested. However, it is such a great device to wean kitty off of human feedings. She waits for sound of machine dispensing food and does not "ask" to be fed. Also great when kitty is left home alone for a few days!

After reading the other reviews I decided to spend the money on this about a month ago. We put our place on the market and also were going out of town. I wanted something that would contain the litter and hide it but would also be easy for the neighbor to stop in and take care of it. This thing is really easy to use. I use 'Scoop Away' brand litter- and by preference add extra baking soda. I keep about 3 inches or so of litter in the bottom and it works great for my two cats. I clear it out every morning (takes less than a minute) and once a week I open the whole thing to make sure there isn't too much build up on the grate inside- very easy to do. I had expected better results with the FURminator. It did O.K. with my medium long hair cat, but not any better than a less expensive fur rake does with my long thick fur cat. I suggest going with a longer width than what is recommended for cats. In my opinion, the short width of the tool made it tedious when combing my extra large cat. If I had had the opportunity of trying this product before buying, I probably would not have bought it at the given price.

Well, I wasn't sure that this product would be that great. I was afraid that it would start stinking and that my rather large cat with humongous poops would make this cat box seem like a pipe dream. I was wrong. I've now owned it for a month and have had no problems with smells and it works like a charm! Yes it can be a little loud when the rake does its thing but its not bad and when my cat hears the rake start working, he runs downstairs to watch it move. And as a side note, at first I thought the cartridges were a little pricey but when I figured out how much I spent on kitty litter per month, I realized that the difference in price was about $10 per month. Our little 11 week old Boston Terrier was able to get into the dish almost immediately. The dish rotated properly and all, but the plastic was warped when we got it and the top didn't mesh or snap onto the bottom. The dog was just able to get it open in a snap. It is not worth the nearly $80.00 it took to order it and pay shipping. Don't waste your money.

I purchased two of these to replace the older version I have had for about 10 years...the new ones look nicer and don't show the dirt like the older white ones did....I just hope they hold up as well as the older ones did.... great shipping by the way!!!!
