I really love to review those albums that I think fall into the "Greatest Album You've Never Heard" category...but this one I think really epitomizes that moniker. Imagine if you will...Hendrix does NOT die in 1970 but lives to continue his musical journey. Around 1976, he may have released an album that sounds remarkably like this one. This short lived band came together as an offshoot of musicians from Stomu Yamashta's Go Project. Only two albums were ever recorded by this band (the second with an altered line-up and a significantly less prog, more R&B sound), but wow, what albums. This one is clearly the superior though, with Michael Shrieve's drums leading the listener through a set of material that is equal parts Funkadelic, Hendrix, Isley Brothers, and something quite original. I own both Automatic Man Lp's. when I heard the first album I wasn't really that impressed ( giving new records a quick scan through), but the the more i listened .....the more I grew to love. Love grew like a wart on my nose and soon it was and still is one of my favorite albums. I even made a cd compiling both albums. Suffice to say all tracks fit on one cd ...except for one. If you loved the first album, the second is defiantly worth the purchase. A band of talented musicians who only released two albums is crazy! Full of great skill and progression, i believe it's a great follow up to the first album. Spacey and filled with catchy hooks. how could you deny? And if you haven't heard the first buy it as well. I'm not sure if the cd can compare to my scratchy well worn vinyl but who cares, it's ... Read More

I have been a jazz-fusion fan for twenty years, and John Mclaughlin is one of my favorite guitar players. I'm also a fan of the late Jaco Pastorius, and love to hear anything by the late great bass player. I'm familiar with Tony Williams from his performances with John Mclaughlin, and he is an incredible drummer.

Until recently, I never could get hold of this recording, and am pretty pleased with it. It's a dynamic, fusion recording, with stirring live performances by all three performers. I was particularly impressed with Williams, who is a phenomenon in his own right.

Mclaughlin's playing is always inspiring, and is pretty much Mclaughlin standard. Jaco is, well....Jaco. I mean, he can be totally surprising or he can treat the event as kind of a blow off. I have heard ... Read More

Don't listen to the jerks who only gave this gem 1 star. Sometimes I do not understand what people want, you have two of the very best at their craft getting together here and they make a fine album. Not a weak song on it.
Like I said ignore the negative comments, if you like either one of these guys you will like this album.

Sea and Sky is definitely one of his greatest works. This man is one intense composer. I never bought the term: NEW AGE. I always felt that many of the artists were sincere instrumentalists. The term NEW AGE was a contrived business venture. However there are many artists in this field that pour too much sap into their music. Those may be the individuals who fall under the category of NEW AGE. STOMU YAMASHTA is really a one of a kind composer. TEMPEST is a must if you can find a copy. Upon first listen of SEA AND SKY, expect to be taken on a musical journey which is beyond the beyond. He invokes feelings of Gnosis in his music. I have 2 releases only and this is my favorite composer. I hope his entire back catalog will be available soon. good buy!

This album is much better than I expected. The melodies, harmonies, and production techniques exhibit Wilson's immense talent. I found the music very relaxing and enjoyable. I recommend this to people with an open mind about music.

What a wizard! Yamashta's music on this disc is mind-boggling. Before the likes of Trilok Gurtu and Nana Vasconcelos, this Japanese superhero of percussion took the classical, then the world of progressive music by storm in London.

These two extended pieces from 1971 proved two things: that he was a superb musician and composer, and that he must have been born with eight arms!

Red Buddha swells with more and more fertility, in terms of rhythmic complexity and intrumental depths; As expanding as bends one's sense of time and seduces you into his world of supernatural powers.

I rue the day I never bought his other records when they were available: oh how I'd love his work that followed, especially Come to the Edge, Freedom is Frightening and Raindog. Back then he was a unique player and composer, ... Read More

Even if you are not a particularly big fan of Pink Floyd there's a lot here to entertain. If you are fan, put this one in your shopping cart post haste. The sound is off the charts, the picture is fantastic and the performance is great. David Gilmour is as good as he ever was, perhaps even better. His voice has held up over the years and his very recognizable guitar style continues to raise goosebumps. Something I happened to notice about this particular concert is you never see cameraman, but there are shots being taken from every conceivable angle. Hats off to the producer. I have a lot of concert dvds and this one is the best.
