1.Freeze Dried Strawberries CAN, 6 oz. from: Honeyville Farms
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

: Freeze Dried Strawberries CAN, 6 oz.

I do know how to dry strawberries. These, however, are better- okay, MUCH better. However, I want to warn potential buyers of possible disappointment when you open the can. In my canister, the strawberries took up about 1/2 the can. It was not filled to the top.

Now, take a look at the price. These are NOT cheap. However, I am ordering two more of these. Why? For several reasons. They keep indefinitely, even after being opened. However, they don't last long in our household so I need to have some hidden in our pantry.

Also, what if the power went out. What if your frozen or fresh strawberries weren't available? These have plenty of Vitamin C per serving (60% of the DV which I believe is Daily Value) and only 15 calories per 1/4 cup. Those who have ALLERGIES (yes, ... Read More

Just blueberries, no sugar, not too sweet, great for healthy snacking right out of the can. I have started to add them to yogurt and cereal, highly recommended. Great to have around in the months when fresh fruit is not an option.

4.Freeze Dried Raspberries - 8 Ounce Can from: Honeyville Farms

: Freeze Dried Raspberries - 8 Ounce Can

These are just amazing! We eat them out of hand as well as adding them to cereal and baked goods. They are crunchy and slightly tart when eaten dry. Like most freeze dried fruit they can become quite soft when reconstituted but they are still far better than canned raspberries. These are not quite as good as the freeze dried strawberries but only because raspberries have larger seeds. I grew up eating raspberries right off the bushes and these really bring back memories.
The price is not high at all when you consider the cost of fresh raspberries, 8oz dry is probably equivalent to several pounds of fresh fruit. The kids also love to see them plump up when water is added its like magic. and you can always have them on hand I crushed some into a chocolate sauce and they made it taste truly ... Read More

My can was a little more tart than sweet. Theyre still good. One 1/4 scoop or less of these add enough flavor to oatmeal to enjoy.

6.Freeze Dried Peaches - 12 Ounce Can from: Honeyville Farms

: Freeze Dried Peaches - 12 Ounce Can

I've ordered several cases of freeze-dried fruits from Honeyville and their products are awesome (my toddler loves their peaches, strawberries and peas). My only reservation is uniformity of the product: I've had orders of the peaches where each little piece is about a 1/2 inch cube, and others where they are very tiny--like shriveled knobby flakes. I definitely prefer the former for snacking (the company was excellent about taking back and refunding the "shriveled" order"). Overall, this is a healthy, natural snack that's perfect for kids, but beware of eating straight from the can--you'll be surprised at how quickly it disappears!

I did not think it would be so nasty. Now I am stuck with a bunch of this powder, and the only use i can find is baking where you cant really tell the difference.

8.Steel Cut Oats - Bulk 26.25 Pound Case from: Honeyville Farms

: Steel Cut Oats - Bulk 26.25 Pound Case

This is really two reviews.

1. For those who already know about steel cut oats, these are simply the best value I have seen. The cans last indefinitely while sealed the manufacturers says "10 to 20 years." The oats are excellent quality and flavor and are equal to any other that I have eaten on that score. So the question becomes "How much do you want to pay for your steel cut oats?" Doing the math, these work out to 14 cents per ounce. The 50 lbs sacks are less expensive, but difficult to store. Of course these are a great value because the shipping cost is so nominal. Buy up, while the buying is good.

2. For those who don't know about steel cut (also called "pinhead" oats), these are oats that have not been "squashed" in a roller to speed up the cooking process. Steel cut ... Read More

: Powdered Egg Whites - 2.25 Pound Can

I found this product for use with the Six Week Body Makeover, by Michael Thurmond, they guy who whips people into shape on Extreme Makeover. I needed to find a way to get egg whites into my diet without actually having to choke them down! I use these powdered egg whites in lots of recipes on that plan, but mostly for smoothies. 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 4 tsp powdered egg whites, 1/2 of a small banana, a little water and sweetener (if you like) and blend. Really easy and tastes really good. I cannot even detect the egg white in the taste, which is a huge plus. I am now ordering my second 2.25 pound can! Great stuff!

I've recently made efforts to eat better and, let me tell you, ALL of Bob's Red Mill products are a godsend. Quinoa is easy to make, versatile, and packs some serious health benefits. The package it comes in doesn't look like much but the seeds cook up to 4 times their size, easily. So a little goes a long way both in that sense and that it's pretty filling too! I use it as a side dish, in soups and stews, and I imagine that with the right ingredients it could be used for breakfast as well!

I'm a carb addict and this, while not low carb, is definitely better than the empty and processsed carbs that I used to eat. If you're looking for a low carb option that's similar to rice, check out TVP granules. Only 3 effective carbs per serving and even easier to make than this stuff!
