My kids love banging on this drum, much to their enjoyment and my ears dismay. Actually the sound isn't all that irritating and it is a very well made instrument. You see this drum in stores for $20+ which is way to expensive for just a toy drum. Amazon has the best price on this item.

I bought this toy for my daughter for her second birthday. 5 months later she plays with her instruments every day! The instruments are very good quality.. extremely durable.. and they have to be to survive the wrath of a 2 year old! Highly recommended to anyone looking for instruments to buy for their toddler - they are so durable, sound realistic (they are realistic), and are excellent quality.. as Melissa & Doug items usually are. One one thing I would like to note. My daughter could care less.. but, the instruments come in a wooden crate. And.. its exactly what it is.. a box. I submitted a picture showing the 7 x 21 and the 8x8 size drums. They give good sound. There are not a toy although they may look like toys. Large surface allows for different sounds in striking. Small drum may look small but it delivers loud sound also. Sticks or mallets or hands can be used. Can build up coordination. Each drum comes with 2 mallets felt tip , very soft. 8 inches long mallets. To sum it up this type drums are good in every way to me. Have fun. Great for children. Drum sounds do cause people to gather. You will see.

When you buy these buy a bunch. My kids love to drum and drum on everything. It was killing me the things they would think to use as drumsticks and what they thought they could hit with them. These drumsticks fixed that problem well. They heads bounce nicely and we have not seen a new dent in the furniture since. Of course they work great on their drums too and no one has been seriously injured from drumming on each other yet either. Honestly the best purchase I ever made. I wish they sold them in bulk packs, lol. They are used every single day without exception and it is hard to even get the kids in the car somedays with out toting along the drum sticks too.
