Better Than Bullion - Mushroom makes a flavorful rub for vegetables and meats that you are roasting. All by itself, or with the usual herbs you use in dry rub. Just remember, this stock is salted. It can enrich salad dressings too. Use it as you would an herb to season all sorts of dishes. Instead of salt: Substitute 1 Tbs Better Than Bouillon(tm) for 1 tsp salt. Unable to get to a health products store, I got Better than Bullion vegetable base and the beef base. Both are way too salty if you are watching your daily recommended sodium intake it is listed at 21 percent for the beef variety (reduced sodium) and 30 percent for the vegetable base. It makes me wonder if there other products are this way too. It is something to consider and I've found powdered vegetable broths to be much more friendly in terms of low sodium.

I'm really rather surprised to see the mixed reviews on here, although I wonder if some of the less favorable reviews have more to do with the recipes in which the base was used. Keep in mind, this is basically a replacement for bouillon cubes, but with a lobster flavor instead of beef or chicken. It packs an intense flavor and, yes, does have a lot of sodium (but not as much as a dried bouillon cube). For most recipes, this means easing up on any additional salt. That said, I've used this not only for lobster bisque but also for a broth for seafood risotto and a paella and it makes for a wonderful dish that can't be beat except by your own lobster stock (and this is a lot cheaper). I like this product. I use it when making Thanksgiving Gravy. What I typically do is add a couple tablespoons to store bought chicken stock while it's on the stove. I let it simmer along with my turkey neck, gizzards, onion celery and carrots. It helps to give the stock more of a turkey flavor as opposed to the chicken. The only drawback is that it is very salty!

I followed the recipe on the jar and it was wonderful. There was no heat just loads of flavor. For those who like their chili hot peppers or other heat could be added, but I loved it the way it was.

I purchased 2 jars of clam base. They came and both jars seals were broken and clam base was all over inside the box. I sent a message telling them about it and asked if I could get 2 more. No email was sent back but 2 more jars, packed just like the 1st package, was received and the same thing, both seals were broke and clam base all over. I sent another message. No response. Another message sent asking for a written answer and I asked the to maybe "double box" it as they were getting beat up during shipping. I have received no email, no product and no refund. I would like a full refund for my attempted purchase.

Ordered my third jar yesterday. This is so delicious! I use it as a minestrone base, a substitute for the ramen MSG laden soup packets, add it to my gravies and chile verde. I'd use it sparingly until you figure out what works for you. For myself, about two teaspoons per three cups of water seems to work.
