Baking is my thing, even though I must cook everyday foods to survive. Because I have limited shelf space, and because I want to simplify my life, I only keep those cookbooks I use and treasure. This is one of those books. I love the recipes in this book!! They are accurate and produce consistent results. If you like glossy pictures in your cookbooks then this book is not for you, but if you want easy and tasty recipes then this is the best book in the market. In reading some of the negative reviews I would like to comment that perhaps the fault does not lie in the recipes, but in the cook. I started to make bread again in my bread maker. However it seems like I was not able to get an even slice for toasting. This slicer helps keep the knife evenly spaced for each slice. I had a little trouble keeping the sides together so the end plate would not fall out, but finally got the system going. Now I need to purchase a good sharp bread slicing knife to make my life perfect.

This is a great book with lots of different bread recipes. It has easy to follow directions and great pictures. The recipes I've used thus far have been very good.

Bought this book almost a year ago when I got my new Zojirushi (BBCC-X20) bread maker. Have used the book every week since and have never been disappointed. Use measures for "large" bread and the largest amount of liquid that the recipe calls for. If recipe calls for vital wheat gluten, use it. Also, as every bread maker knows but I learned the hard way, be sure to spoon flour rather than scoop it! Zojirushi needs a little help sometimes with the more dense breads to even out the dough after the final knead cycle but even the funny looking breads tasted great! Highly recommend this book, especially for anyone using this bread maker.

I have tried many, many of these recipes. They all worked well. Some I did like better than others, but that is just due to my likes and dislikes. It has a great intro that explains in detail why each element is important. I will admit I add 1/4 extra yeast over the 1 tsp. they recommend. I did doubt the small amount of yeast, but found it works well and makes for a great texture. Would recommend to anyone.

don't bother trying to order this thing if you live in canada... apparently you might be a terrorist or something and they can't ship it to you... this is an important product for usa national security... don't waste your time and go find a nice canadian source for a similar product. miffed? you bet!

I came across a book today on Amazon, written by Donna German and as it happens on Amazon, was led to this book. So I have to give you my opinion. I bought this book brand new when it first came out. I had a DAK 1.5 lb R2D2 machine and ABMs were pretty new then. This was my first ABM cookbook. I bought every one German wrote after that and I still have them and use them regularly. A couple of the reviews I happened to glance over griped about adjustments. Please know that in breadmaking, adjustments are reality. Humidity, ingredients, and karma all affect your dough, so you really need to watch it while mixing to make sure the consistency is right. The recipies gave ranges for liquid and recommended that you check your dough and add more os whatever in order to make the recipe work. Most of my other recipies give exact measurements and I have great success with those. I am hesitant to try any of the recipies in this book for fear of failure. I have a 1-1/2 lb machine.

I really like this book. Like other reviews have stated though, if you are looking solely for recipes that use absolutely no white flour - this is not the book for you. If, however, you just want to incorporate more whole grains, this is a great book to have. Each recipe has separate sections to be used by machine or hand (I use the by hand one). All you have to do is find the correct header and you're good to go - it doesn't try to mash it all together. Everything is also very clearly explained. I like the variety and uniqueness of recipes (I never would have thought of chocolate walnut wheat bread, but it's really good!), and the fact that many have recipes for using the leftovers as well, or for something to accompany it.
