This replaced the DS-1 which I had for about 3 days. Whose designed I loved but it only lasted about a basket and a half due to overheating. My new 77Cs has gone through about 4 baskets (now I'm caught up) of shredding. No problems. Instead of burning up its internal circuit board (like the DS-1)this unit has a heat sensor and will shut itself down for about 20 minutes to cool off. There is a red temp light that comes on. It did this once for me. I grabed a cup of coffee and came back a hour later. Just remember to reoil the blades with each basket (per owners manual) and you should have no problems. It jammed with the plastic credit card that came in the mail with credit application. Since I don't have any paperwork on it - I'm screwed! I might buy it again though since it seems to handle multiple pieces of paper pretty well. I would have liked to have known whether or not it took plastic cards before I tried it! Had to junk it!

We recently bought this shredder for our office and it's shared between two people. I looked at lots of different styles and features and finally decided on this one. The day we got it, I tried to cause it to fail - to test it out. It took everything I gave it. It only jammed once because I tried to put way too much paper through at one time and when that happened, I hit the reverse button and it all came out with ease. It has a nice capacity and for those who are trying to make eco-friendly purchases, you don't need to put a bag in this bin. The casters also make it very easy to move between the two offices if needed. I have the DM17CS and I use a standard plastic kitchen garbage bag. I streach the top of the bag around the interior rim of the unit and there is nothing haning outside the shredder.

I purchased this shredder for my mom and it died before 6 months was up. Spoke with the manufacturer and after answering a few questions and testing the shredder over the phone to determine if it was fixable, they readily agreed to send a new one and were very easy to deal with. Received the new one promptly and it hasn't been 2 months and the new one is now not working. Other Fellowes shredders have worked great that I have purchased, but steer very clear of this one. This shredder even looks cheap when you get it.

This is a great shredder! Seems a little big at first but you will appreciate not having to empty the bin as much. Fits nicely into a corner of the room or next to a desk. This shredder looks like it will last us a lifetime.

Got this today and while it does do its job as far as shredding, not jamming too often and holding a good amount in the container I don't know why they say its confetti cut when its more like strips. I was led to believe that it cut up the pieces smaller (into actual confetti or crosscut small pieces) then what they are. The cut is about 1 inch in length which to me isnt as secure as a true "confetti cut" would be. So for those of you who are expecting this to make actual confetti, it wont. If you want a sturdy shredder that shreds and doesn't jam up, then try this one out. So it still gets 4 stars for its performance (so far) but no star for its cutting technique.

I work from home for a Fortune 500 Corporation, so all work that is not filed must be shredded. This model is by far the best for the money and gets the job done.

This shredder in layman terms is simply O.k.,reason first the cut is excellent and is very quiet.I dont like that one must hold the button continously for shredding and it is slow.IT can over heat,but one must wait for the thermobraker to reset.

After buying 3 inexpensive shredders and having them breakdown, I bit the bullet and spent a little more money for this fellows shredder and it was well worth it. I don't know why I couldn't find this product in the stores. Fellowes is a great brand name and it performs beautifully. I love the fact that is has a removable basket to empty inside along with a plastic bag to dump the shredding. I also empty the plastic bag and just keep reusing it, which was always a messy job. It came with oil to maintain the shredding blades after each full bag. I have put it through it's paces and it performs, up to 15 pages, never once jamming. This definitely is a quality product. I purchased it over a year ago and it just keeps performing like new. I guess it's true--you get what you pay for.
