Excellent articles but I haven't been able to use any of the recipes. If you order this magazine be sure you just want to read what others are cooking.

I received a free subscription to this magazine over the past year. While the recipes look decidant - they are not really something that I would make. I am a working mother of 2 small children, I don't really have time to come home from work and whip up a Gourmet Meal. The ingredients are also uncommon items that would need to be bought in specialty stores. I imagine that I should have guessed by the title that the magazine is not really in my cooking league. However, if you like to cook and use fancy ingredients - this is probably the magazine for you!

I will be brief. I received this as a gift and am not a hobby or any other type of gourmet cook. However, I am impressed. It is well put together- great articles, supported by high quality photography and recipes that so surprisingly, are not intimidating. My college age daughter, now ever so sensitive to good quality food versus poor quality food was drawn to the magazine. I have ordered her a subscription for Christmas. Don't tell. :)

The accounts in Food & Wine are fun to read, and I've gotten many great recipes from the magazine. However, I do have one major qualm with it: the advertisement to recipe ratio, is aggravating. When I get a cooking magazine, I expect recipes, not ads galore. Besides that, it is a fine magazine, but I would recommend something like Cooks Country (my favorite-the recipes are delicious, the tips helpful, the accounts of how the recipes came to be entertaining, and the format both attractive and easy to follow) instead. Taste of Home is also a good choice.

I have had this book for a few months and have made several recipes: black beans, bread pudding, meatloaf, a caramel sauce for a flan, chicken stock and oh, I can't even remember what else. Bottom line: this cookbook ROCKS!!! The details on HOW and WHY make for great bedtime reading (and yes, I DO have a life) and I am far more willing to try a recipe that has lots of ingredients and takes a while to make because I have a very high level of confidence that the results will be worth the effort.

I've been a subscriber for many years. The recipes make it easy to provide delicious food with nutritional balance.

This is a great magazine with a lot of good ideas on how to make things "real simple"

One of the great values in magazines, great stories, interesting pix from cover to back it's one of the best buys in magazines you can make.

The few low reviewers about Cook's Country seem confused by this magazine's commitment to simple home cooking, and some of them have asked, "Why bother? Isn't that what Cook's Illustrated is all about?" Well, yes and no. Cook's Illustrated, in my observation, is geared far more to the urban or East Coast food lover, someone with a spouse or partner but no, or grown, children, and someone who entertains (as in "has dinner parties") with some frequency. The recipes are indeed simple and turn out beautifully, but they're not exactly the sort of thing most families would tackle on a Tuesday night. Cook's Country, on the other hand, seems to have as its demographic the home cook with a spouse and kids to feed, and whose parties run to the "child's birthday" or "backyard BBQ" ... Read More
