Swing Kids has always been a favorite movie of mine, since I first saw it in college. Seeing it again after having been in the music business for 8 years, many of the musical references and jokes are clearer to me now and made the movie that much better. Musician or not, I highly recommend renting/buying this flick.

I went into purchasing this film, feeling a tad uneasy of what I would be viewing. I didn't know whether I'd be seeing a horror movie or a satire and a comedy.

To my utter delight. It was a mixture of all three listed items. It was a horror in all of its fantasmic images, but it was also satirical. I laughed at several parts of the movie and cringed when I knew another death was coming! If you see it, you'll know what I mean. And of course the film is explicit, graphic in its sexual presentation. But that's only to further emphasize how utterly lost and dominant that man has truly become. For instance, he can't even handle the fact that another man 'has' a better business card than him. You can see it each time on his face.

There was another thing that got ... Read More

My 2 kids (now in their 20's) grew up with this movie, and we always loved the music, which was such an important part of this movie, along with the historical setting of WWII. The music includes a little boy singing beautifully, a boys choir, military traditional, and some very descriptive serious contemporary (not pop) music. I am a classically trained musician, and I don't get tired of listening to it.

If you enjoyed this movie as much as I did you will want it in you DVD library, however, be aware of the fact that there is a Chinese version which is in Mandarin. I ordered the Chinese version by mistake because at the time it was not clear that it was not in English.

This movie was specifically requested by my brother as the film upon which we would build our Blu-Ray collection. We watched it the first night we had gotten our Playstation 3 and HDMI cable. That was also the last time we watched it.

Visually, we couldn't have picked a better movie to inaugurate ourselves into the world of Hi-Def films. Herzog's cinematography is exceptional. The colors and details are so arresting and intense that, honestly, it is almost overwhelming for a moment. Unfortunately, the sightseeing doesn't get to last very long, as once Christian Bale's Deiter Dengler gets captured, the tone shifts visually to the muddy prison camp for much of the rest of the film.

I wish I had more to say about this movie, but unfortunately there's not much more to say: ... Read More

Visually, this is a beautiful movie, and the musical score is wonderful, but overall I was disappointed. It would have been much better in Chinese with subtitles. The English dialogue sounds so phony much of the time, and the characters seem so plastic. This is an epic story, but it lacks real human emotion, perhaps because there was just too much of a story to fit into even a LONG movie. It probably should have been a trilogy, so that the characters and their experiences could have been explored in more depth. The scenes of the Forbidden City were very interesting, especially since I just got back from seeing the real thing, but otherwise I can't recommend it.

An incredible book. While reading this book I realized I had never heard much about the WW2 in the pacific outside of the American military operations of island hoping and the movies that came out of those events. I found this book very interesting. What was more surprising is it was based of Ballard's actual events that occurred to him during this time. I found myself wanting to so bad to know that everything would turn out well in the end. There were a few missing points in the book that I wish I could know the answer to, like what happened to certain individuals after the end of the book.

I'm trying really hard not to spoil the book for anyone who has not read it yet. I felt my mind completely engrossed in the book and I found myself day dreaming during the day and finding myself at Lunghua ... Read More

Two multi-talented actors in the same movie-Great! One of the best remakes of any film or series I've ever seen. I list this as one of my top 10 movies. The street scenes as well as location scenes are well filmed. The story follows a simple line, without the viewer wondering what is happening! Superb movie, I gave it 4 stars, because I've never seen a 5 star film.
