Back in 1973, people bought two albums, Pink Floyd's DSOTM and Mike Oldfield's Tubullar Bells. This CD takes you to places, to sounds and feelings that no othe Tubullar Bells CD has ever been able to reproduce, as well as no other Oldfield, to that matter. There are many versions, even the recent recreation from the man himself, however, whatever you purchase, puechase this one first, there is simply nothing comparable to it.

I just cant understand how anyone could like such boring music.for interesting music I would suggest you to listen to music from bands like PINK FLOYD,LED ZEPPELIN,DEEP PURPLE,CREAM,FREE,BAD COMPANY and AC/DC instead.

Heard this CD while traveling on tour in the UK. I was very taken with it, and bought it when I got home. I can't believe how well it went with the English countryside as we traveled. Now it causes me to harken back to that trip! The music, in my opinion, is very beautiful with lots of different instrumentation and voices. There has to something everyone would love on the album.

I originally(many years ago) bought this on tape,I must have let someone "borrow" it and it was never returned,and so this CD was like visiting an old friend who I had not seen for years.It is still very good and really worth listening to(unlike some of his later rubbish)

Those of you that don't get it, the title stands for the ocean liner by that name from the early 1980's when the vinyl version came out. And this CD is of a distinct British Flavor with several tracks. Overall I think this CD is much better than the one I just reviewed called "Platinum". From the sounds of what could be a Gypsy camp to the sounds of Old England, a good CD!

Born in 85 i wasn't really able to enjoy this music at it's peak, howeve my mom had it on lp and it rocked the house and as i got older i thought that i just have to get this on cd and i was right the whole cd is spectacular my favorite track is of course the 25 minute Taurus II followed by Family man and of course Five Miles Out

Originally conceived as a sequel to OMMADAWN, many years before, AMAROK bears a few similarities to that album but for the most part strikes out on its own. And while limitations of the vinyl and tape formats split OMMADAWN into two pieces, AMAROK gives us a solid hour of music, with rising and falling moods, complex exploration, and stunning musicianship. One of Oldfield's top albums, if not the top, right up there with OMMADAWN, MUSIC OF THE SPHERES, and TUBULAR BELLS (the original).

For one summer, in 1993, I listened to this album religiously. It's an instrumental album, carrying the sonic motif familiar to anyone who's seen the Exorcist. So, I slipped it back into rotation, to see if it was as good as I remembered. For me, this album didn't ring true to my memories. I had remembered this album as inspiring, but now it seems entertaining, but also somewhat pretentious at times. Ah well...sometimes the memories matter more.
