After you've read the Nikon book (if you can actually get through it), and after you've read whatever manual or Field Guide you purchase in addition -- Magic Lantern, Thomas, whoever, you'll want to have this with you. It fits in your pocket, it fits in your camera bag, it fits in your vest. It lets you know where every function is on the menus and on the camera. YOU CAN'T REMEMBER ALL THIS and you can't carry the Field Guides out in the field. Come on People, its not that pricey. You spent thousands on your camera and lenses -- this thing helps.

What can I say? It performs just as the one that came with the D80. Long life - bought it more as an emergency spare and to rotate so the batteries lasts longer. Legit Nikon product.

Better than the manual specially to a newbie like me. it is very informative, well made and most important it is very clear and accurate. I highly recommend this and in fact I have the Vol. 2 for the D300 & 700 advance as well.

This guide is little more than camera manual, too brief and skimpy on detail. Much of the contense are devoted to telling me about how to be a photographer rather than helping me be better aquainted with my new camera. The author frequently describes non Nikon equipment as he wanders through topics like poritature, landscapes and sporting shots.

If you are interested in Digital Photography, this is the book for you. Scott Kelby did not go into technical details for the photography tips, instead he would just tell you what f-stop or shutter speed for taking certain types of shots. Wonderful book. Highly recommended.

I just got back from Kenya where I was shooting photos for my work and also took a lot of personal photos while on a safari. This card was great! I didn't have any problems and never had to wait for the card to catch up to me. I took nearly 800 photos in RAW without having to fumble around swapping cards while bouncing along in the Maasai Mara. I highly recommend this card.

This is the first of many Magic Lantern camera books I've read over the years that I have been disappointed in. First, there are many, many typos and grammatical errors. Many references to numbered icons (that presumably should have printed with the actual icon) that as an icon number made no sense. This book is a rehash of the D200 book (which is ok) but there are several (incorrect) references to D200 functionality that wasn't rewritten to describe the D300. From an editing standpoint, this book is an embarrassment! But like all the Magic Lantern Guides, this book does offer a great deal of useable information. In terms of benefit, I'd rate this about half way between reading the Nikon manual and reading a well-written and informative book about this great camera.

If you own a D300/D700 and you shoot more than just the kids' soccer games, then you need this. I use it with 8 NiMH AA Energizers because it seems more economical than the upgrade batter and plug (for me). Still shoots 8 fps with AAs. If you shoot (semi)professionally, don't look around, don't buy the knock off, just hit "PURCHASE" then add overnight! You'll be glad you did.
