If you have a plan and your plan is working then you may not need this book, but if you are making it up as you go, this book can help. The author, a constitutional lawyer, has ten kids, six of which are girls. It is fair to say that he has earned the right to write on the topic. Any father of a soon to be teenage daughter could use Farris's experiences to help him be a better Dad. A few of the ideas I liked are as follows: I liked the ideas about relationships not being stagnant, kids are either influencing or being influenced by their peers. Another concept I thought was useful was the one on teaching out of a problem with the goal of influencing their behavior when you (as a parent) are not in the room. I read this book 8 years ago when we found out we were going to have a daughter. Now with two daughters, what I learned in this book continues to give me guidance as I raise my girls. I think it is so helpful, that I buy a copy for any friends or family who find out they are having a baby girl. The author is a Christian and makes reference to Biblical principles, but it's not too overpowering for non-Christians and the principles are good no matter your religion.

This book is very encouraging and incredibly helpful for anyone beginning their career search or for older workers looking to change jobs or being forced to look for new employment. I have purchased more than one of these books to share with young people after reading it myself when I was looking at a midlife career change. I would recommend this as a graduation gift or a great holiday gift for anyone in or looking to be in the work force. Highly recommend it!!!

I thought this was a pretty good book although the fearmongering was a bit much for me. I felt so much fear and despair after reading it I wanted to curl up in a closet with my little girl to protect her from the hurricane of evil that the world was portrayed as. Particularly the media. The book has some very good, strong points, but the way it gets there sometimes makes me pause. It is definitely geared for the pre-teens on up. I really found nothing applicable mentioned that would apply to younger girls. The book does make some good points about role modeling, leadership and support. I suspect however that those fathers that are reading this book probably fall into two categories - those who are really concerned about being good dads and want to plan ahead and do all they can and those that have found themselves in bad situation ... for those like me who think God left it up to me to do his work and for others who just don't know how to keep someone out of their space, this book is perfect. it was a life changer for me. now i just remind myself "boundries" and know that God didn't leave me in charge down here, that he is in charge and working on al situations. it let me know that i am interfering with his work. i can now sleep at night knowing that he is in charge and that it's not up to me to fix up everyones lives
