I have tried several pedometers over the last couple of years. I found this one to be easy to program and use. The numbers are big enough it can be read easily without my glasses. I have tested against other machines to see the accuracy of my numbers and found it to be right on the mark. I loved it so much I have bought one for my walking partner!

This is a super pedometer! Easy read, stores lots of info, and software to store it away on. Provides monthly chart to preserve what I do or don't do so far as walking goals in an easily accessed and colorful way. I'm on my second. Only complaint is the safety clip which attaches to pocket or waistband was fragile on the first and broke which meant it was constantly falling to the ground. Pedometer survived the falls and still works fine but I was concerned I'd lose it so ordered another. Great investment if you're interested in keeping records of your progress.

I have been a runner for 30 years, and 10 of those were my marathon years. I did around 50 of them, including qualifying for Boston 3 times. So you can imagine how unhappy I was when injuries received on a 5 week hike kept me from running for an entire year. Well, that year is over, and I have found that walking doesn't hurt me, but running does. So logic is finally prevailing, and I am now a walker. But I refuse to give up my beloved marathons.

This is where Dave McGovern's book has come into play. His book, particularly theintroductory chapters, makes me excited about walking, not just resigned to it. Now I have a sport that I can continue the rest of my life, and with many fewer injuries. I figure I have spent at least 25% of the past 5 years injured and unable to run. ... Read More

"Fitness Walking" by Therese Iknoian is very helpful self-guided instructional to help folks get started in those activities know jointly/separately as Fitness Walking, Health Waling, Power Walking etc. This reviewer had no choice getting involved, since his knees were burned out after 30+ years of running on concrete. The tone of FW is genial and gentle throughout. Perhaps the most useful advice is printed very early in the text where the author lists her "Technique Summary". These 7 points encompass all the basics the new athletic walker will need to get started. There are more helpful admonitions, given lightly in a big sisterly fashion: > Walk using only one earphone for safety> Warm up, stretch AND cool down after each workout > Avoid injury and muscle stress by cross training via other athletic activities ... To venture a guess; if you re considering buying this book you are more than likely considering (or have recently begun) walking as a form of exercise.
If so, BUY IT, start reading, and by all means GET UP & WALK.
The book will help.
It is chock full of info such as fitness evaluation, shoes & gear, excrcise & strength training for walkers, stretches, technique, and on, and on,and on, and all of it good advice.
Quite frankly however it is a heck of a lot to absorb all at once, and offers so much info that the you may be overwhelmed by detail, options, training styles, etc
If it gets you up & walking though, then your dollars will have been well spent.
And once you have started walking then check out Prevention's Complete Book of Walking by Maggie Spliner.

: The Step Diet: Count Steps, Not Calories to Lose Weight and Keep It off Forever
Note: I obtained this book used and so received the book only, not the included pedomter.

I was interested in The Step Diet because after purchasing a pedometer (not the one that came with this book), I was looking for some simple, easy strategies to increase my daily step totals. I should preface my comments by saying that I am not exactly the book's intended target audience: I am not trying to lose weight, and I already exercise daily. However, when I am NOT exercising, I am fairly sedentary, which is why I acquired a pedometer, and I hoped that this book would help me take further steps (excuse the pun!) towards being more active.

As other reviewers have suggested, this book takes the same two-step approach to weight loss with which we are all familiar: exercise more and eat less. However, ... Read More

This is an excellent book for anyone considering walking for exercise and enjoying the process
It is a well written, informative, interesting read that will guide one to injury free walking for health, fitness & weight loss.
I have begun the Dynamic Walking program described fully in the book and am quite happy with the progress being made.

I recommend this as the first book to read about walking and suggest that it may then become the only book needed.
