The narrative's sanctimonious pomposity, the plot's absurdly thin veneer, the author's inability to get even simple facts (he thinks Lujan is not a Hispanic/Latino surname) correct is just the start. The main problem with this 100 i.q. book is there are no human characters in it. Just out of stubbornness i finished all 500 pages and all he could deliver were flat caricatures at best. I got the book from the library, and still felt ripped off. : Jesus Out to Sea: Stories
James Lee Burke is a master at descriptions be they of surroundings or feelings.

This book is a collection of short stories with a range of situations that people can be faced with and told by a master craftsman in describing how those people felt.

There are no easy answers in these stories and no fanciful scenarios, the stories have a realistic feel of hope combatting hopelessness. The strength of the human spirit is dominant in these stories and Burke is a writer who should be read.

Stalin has been spotted, or rather his ghost has been seen in the Chistye Prudy Metro Station. Has he come back to Moscow to haunt the underground? Hardly. But the powers that be want Arakdy Renko to investigate and when he arrives on the scene he does indeed find people who had seen old Joe in the flesh, well not the flesh exactly.

So why was Renko given the case? Was it because he was investigating a woman who may or may not have hired cops to kill her husband? Was it because he resents ex-black beret soldiers who are now cops, but don't have the chops for the job? Was it because he's not a team player or is it simply because he's the cop the bosses like the least? Maybe a combination of all of the above.

Renko suspects Nikolai Isakov and Marat Urman, two of these ex-Black Beret cops, are on the take ... Read More

Fans of David Morrell, Richard Stark (Donald Westlake), and F. Paul Wilson's brawny thrillers will love Lee Child's laconic loner hero. Featured in ten previous novels, Jack Reacher is a shiftless vagabond who owns nothing and lives nowhere and everywhere. A former military policeman and Army special investigator, he is also a knight-errant of sorts, using his experience, large body, and suppressed violent disposition to right wrongs for people who can't. Like a masterless ronin, he's not "in the system," using the names of obscure baseball players as aliases. But in this newest novel, Child throws Reacher a curve, reuniting him with a group of tightly-knit "special investigators" gathered to find out what happened to their four missing and murdered comrades - and to make someone pay. Reacher's loner personality is tested when he must fit into ... Read More

In more ways than one Larkin Conner Barkley lived life in the fast lane and that nearly proved to be her undoing. A car accident sent her into hiding with ex-cop Joe Pike as her protector.

Why would a non-fatal accident force her wealthy father, in conjunction with the FBI, to send her on the run? Why was the FBI involved?

Joe Pike owed a favor and taking on the task of protecting Larkin was his form of repayment. It was not a job he enjoyed and his only concern was keeping her alive until such time as she could safely return home.

False trails and lies will keep Joe on the run and the reader will travel righ along with him and Larkin in this multi-layered take of suspense. You will wonder who they can trust? Who is after them?

Talented author Robert Crais keeps the reader on the edge of ... Read More

9.Dark of the Moon by: John Sandford
October 02, 2007
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
 : Dark of the Moon
Most of John Sandford's books feature his cop hero Lucas Davenport, and most of the remaining books feature other characters from the same world, most notably artist/problem-solver Kidd. Dark of the Moon stars another character from the Davenport universe, Virgil Flowers. Flowers has played a supporting role in the recent Davenport books as another detective in Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, but this novel gives him a chance to shine on his own.

Flowers has been called to the small rural town of Bluestem to look into the murder of an old doctor and his wife. Even as Flowers gets into town, however, another murder takes place, the arson-killing of Bill Judd, the local big wig that plenty of people hated (kind of a nastier version of C. Montgomery Burns). It doesn't take long for Flowers to sense a connection between the two ... Read More
