This book really should have been called "Melissa, A History" because it is basically a biography of the author Melissa Anelli. I had expected more behind-the-scenes info on Harry Potter, the books, the movies, and JK Rowling. Although there is some of that in this book, there is much more Melissa than Harry.

The subtitle of this book is, "The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon". The promise of the true story of a boy wizard and life inside the Harry Potter phenomenon were very lacking. "His Fans" (specifically Melissa and her friends) was the bulk of this book. Unfortunately, I was primarily interested in the other two.

The book jumps around so unforgivenly at times it gets very confusing. A chronological approach would ... Read More

Pixar, the greatest animation studio around today, produces yet another timeles classic, that could arguably be considered the finest film they have ever produced.

Essentially a loving homage to silent comedy,Wall-E tells the story of a lonely robot who is left to clean up the Earth after an apocalypse.
His only friend is his pet cockroach and the only things that entertain him are the remains of human culture he discovers in film and music.

His monotony is broke by the arrival of a female robot, the very cute,Eva,who has come to earth to collect samples of vegetation for hopes of repopulation.

Wall-E becomes smitten and begins to court her,but when she finds a plant that Wall-E had in his collection of stuff that he's collected, she has to go back to her ship, where all ... Read More

In all seriousness, even with LOWERED EXPECTATIONS (I had heard this movie wasn't very good) the fourth Indiana Jones movie completely underwhelmed me. I kept waiting for a good action scene (Shia Lebuff jousting with a Russian dominatrix on a car does not count) or an interesting plotline or some kind of payoff...NOTHING. This movie is so far removed from the classic first two films (BTW, count me among those who loved Temple of Doom with its breakneck speed, thrills, general creepiness, etc.). Now, I did not have any problem with the extraterrestrial stuff, as there was plenty of supernatural mumbo jumbo in the first three films...however, the "quest" in this movie LED TO NOTHING!!! There was NO PAYOFF!!! I didn't buy Harrison Ford as an action star any more, the characters were dumb, and I was left with a palpable ... Read More

The Harry Potter Schoolbooks are written as if they really came from the wizarding world. The box set contains just too books which are around 50-70 pages long each, but include interesting back-story about the world of Harry Potter with respect to beasts and Quidditch. The books are inexpressive and also 20% of the cost should go to charity. I would really like to see more schoolbooks come out now that the seventh book in the series has been written. Half-Blood Prince's Potions book anyone?

The ruination of the Batman mythos continues. Some examples:

1. The heroine never dies even though she didn't belong in the first place.

2. Batman doesn't endanger innocent bystanders as in the high speed chase with so much destruction.

3. The Joker never ever fooled Batman pyschologically.

Batman is now just another vigilante. The movie is far too long, with too much violence. Cell phone networks are incapable of doing what Batman had it do. Whatever happened to his detective skills to figure things out or weren't writers smart enough to figure something out?

There probably isn't enough of the mythos left to sustain the franchise without looking like an empty shell. And there were so many good Batman stories left to tell.

I know there may be plenty of critical reviews here, but I can't resist putting my thoughts in.
I'm an avid fan of the Narnia books, I've read Prince Caspian 4 or 5 times, and I was so excited when this movie came out. About halfway into the movie however, I realized to my dismay and anger that the movie was far off course from the book itself. It had non-stop battles, there was very little conversation, the storm of the castle was completly off track and never happened. The violence was very upsetting, and I acutally thought a few of my young cousins might like this movie, but after I saw the constant war and unnessessary bloodshed, I knew my cousins could never stomach this brutality. I know this movie takes in war of course, but come on! Some of that frightening aggression was unnessessary, and never happened in the ... Read More

I read this whole series very quickly. The story is imaginative and the reader can't wait to find out what happens next.

Not much new can be said on the Harry Potter series, so I'll just go with one impression from the recent read: Quidditch sucks as an actual sport. With 150 points for catching the Snitch, it's completely absurd, like if field goals in American Football were worth 10 points. The outcome of the game is almost entirely in the hands of someone that has nothing to do with the bulk of the gameplay or teams, and relies on an entirely different skillset. It's still convincing in terms of pointless English boarding school sports, but not as the unofficial sport of Rowling's wizarding world.

The rest of Rowling's worldbuilding is generally better, although never particularly organized or systematic; there are never any clear rules of magic. It's more a hodgepodge of various myths and tales and some inventions. None of ... Read More

First off, Mr. Paolini lied to us. Trillogies are supposed to be in three volumes. He has decided to go for more money by expanding the series to four books. Secondly Brisinger has gone off the deep end in detailed descriptions of everything from every blade of grass that moves to each spatter of blood in the battles. The author has endevored to remove all imagination from the reader. He has even included chapters with no appearent purpose, ("Glumra") for instance. This was 748 pages which should have been reduced to about 350. Hopefully "book 4" will actually complete the series.
