Thank God for good men like Oliver North. I wish we could have more men in power with his faith and his understanding of our military's capabilities and purpose. I am also very thankful for the work being done in Iraq and Afganistan. It is not a finished work nor a perfect work, but it is certainly not a flawed effort as our news outlets lead us to believe. Brining our troops home before they feel they are finished is not "supporting our troups." We need to let the military decide when it is time to come home and stop letting our brilliant politcians and reporters use their deployment as a political leveraging issue. Col. North does a great job of intermixing strait facts of history with the first hand accounts of the men and women who were there. It really helps bring the historical facts to life. I think this should be required reading for WW2 history classes, and is great reading for any history buff. Added bonus- it comes with a great DVD.

War Stories II is a must have for history buffs or novices alike. First hand accounts along with maps and excellent research lead you through the war in the Pacific step by step. The war in the Pacific was especially bloody and costly simply because we were fighting an enemy that preferred death to defeat. The Geneva Conventions Accord meant nothing to the Japanese. You will feel just about every emotion available to you. My feelings were anger, disgust and shock. War is a terrible thing but the war in the Pacific was brutal and inhumane. You will not have a dull moment in this great book, from cover to cover. This should be required reading for all High School students.

I was unaware of the "alternative history" approach the authors took in this novel, and was expecting more of a personal narrative from different points of view. Imagine my surprise when Yamamoto launched the third attack wave on Pearl Harbor! As I was reading it, I was thinking, "That didn't happen!!! What are they talking about!?". It then dawned on me that this was an alternative history, and I found it extremely easy to fall into the story and read it avidly. The book is historically accurate and personally engaging. It is easy to become involved with the characters, with their stories being told against a well-crafted background that places the reader well into the story. The "being there" aura is enhanced by a level of detail and plot development reminiscent of Tom Clancy's better work. ... Read More

If you know Jesus personally, this is an encouraging book to read. Before I read this, I had no idea there were Christian civilians who were living in Iraq when Saddam was in power. Very colorful pictures, with heart stirring words.

Micheal Yon's book is exceptional. It is, in my opinion, an absolute exercise in truth telling. You will be appalled at the blindness at the top of the command structure and, perhaps as I was, brought to an occasional tear at the creativity, courage and humanity of the soldiers on the ground. If you are interested in as close to an unbiased view of what has gone on in Iraq this book is a must read. If you want your faith restored in the absolutly incredible capabilities of our armed services this book serves that pubpose in spades. I completed this book with a renewed sense of an already strong pride in the quality of our fighting men and women.

Not too bad of a book. Explains alot of the details in the Iran-contra affair and he explains his personal involvement in the Vietnam War.
