I first saw this in a Omni-Vision Theatre and now owning it on DVD am no less impressed. It is a GREAT portrayal of their journey west. As a student of history and citizen living and working daily along a portion of the Lewis & Clark route, I recall scenes from this film in my mind and of all the various documentaries and feature films available over the years, most of which I have viewed, this docudrama is of the highest quality and quickest pace. I share mine with anyone interested at all, and they come away with a much better knowledge of what took place. And, like I said, it is not exceedingly long like many pieces on the subject, and is fast paced, so holds the attention.

The DVD was informative and engaging. Burns utilizes the most compelling narrators and resources to substatiate his effort. His history becomes dramatic, multi-faceted, and memorable.

Ken Burns' epic documentary about the Civil War is perhaps the greatest and most all-encompassing history lesson of the North/South conflict that has ever been put on film or page. Not only is every important detail of the war covered (and in such a way that the details are interesting and important, not boring), but two entire episodes are devoted to the build-up and aftermath of the conflict. Essentially, if you were teaching a class on the Civil War, this video is all you would need, as it both conveys the vital information of the war, and does so in a way that doesn't stagnate. This is a fantastic biographical film about Mark Twain, really Samuel Clemens. It covers everything from his birth to his death. This man, considered to be one of America's greatest humorists, suffered a lot of personal grief - some of it by his own doing. The film is typical of Ken Burn's style; very engrossing, very long, and always worth the time.

I am not an accomplished reader so it has to really hold my attention to finish a book. This book is written exactly from L&C's journals. Lots of mispelled words and some confusion. Sometimes hard to follow. Sometimes the minute details are a bit much. They don't really expound on things. I guess what they go through on a day to day basis is somewhat mundane at times. Overall a decent read IMO...I wouldn't get it again if I knew what I know now. Oh well. Enjoy!

I never realized what an important figure John Adams was in the birth of our country until I viewed this DVD. This film definitely showed John's contributions to our American history. I recommend this to anyone, especially those who love historical personalities. The music score was excellent. Highly recommended. Prepare to be enlightened.

Wow! This was the first Stephen Ambrose book I ever read. Now I'm hooked. His attention to detail is incredible. How those guys survived attacks by savages, grizzly bears, and other forces of nature is hard to imagine. Ambrose takes the reader step-by-step through the journey, from the inception, all the way to the explorers' triumphant journey home, and beyond.
