I have read all of Picoult's books, and I've found that only some of them have the good writing and interesting storylines that she's known for. Harvesting the Heart is an example of one of her really crummy books. The narrator is incredibly unlikable, the scenario is unrealistic, and I've tried to read it through more than once and always failed. I wish I had not purchased this book.

This is the fifth Jodi Picoult's novel I've read and probably will be the last one. I almost put it down because it simply got to my nerves. That Cameron Mc Donald was such a selfish, arrogant and weak man and Allie, his wife, such a pushover, that I just could not stand neither one of them. What irritated me most was the fact that after finding out that he was betraying her, Allie punishes Cam, but then forgives him (a deduction based on the notes Cam writes to Mia, which are on the left page at the beginning of each chapter). A good sequel would be one with Allie, leaving this guy for good, leaving town, overcoming her low self esteem and finding true love with a real man, not with the kind of male characters that Jodi Picoult usually creates, which seem to be very handsome and attractive ... She is insecure and is looking to be approved by the collest girl of her class. Sue Miller's The Senator's Wife is an interesting read. Written from the perspective of two neighbors, one who is much older toward the end of her life and one who is younger toward the beginning of her life.

While I was interested in the lives of both women and enjoyed the creative way in which their stories emerged, I felt that Meri's character's development dropped off while Delia's character development took over the story. I would have like to hear a bit more how Meri came to terms with her marriage to a man who seemed pretty self-absorbed and distant.

Further, I felt that the ending was COMPLETELY unbelievable, although from a creative standpoint it sure got me thinking. I guess any author who can do that knows her stuff. I would like the opportunity to debate the ... Read More

This is a very well written book and caught my interest from the first page. Any book by Barbara Delinsky is a good buy. I ordered my book from Amazon.com. I always receive my orders in a timely manner. They let you know when your merchandize is sent and about what time you should receive it.

While I appreciated the careful and thoughtful character portraits, I thought the plot was somewhat unbelievable. Overall I was disappointed in Salem Falls after truly enjoying most of Picoult's novels.

I was very disappointed in this book. It is not up to the level of Jodi Piccoult's other novels. The storyline lacked believablity, the writing was poor, some of the characters were either cardboard cutouts or unrealistic (and one in particular was lifted from The Rainman), and the book needed serious editing. After the first 100 pages, I skipped large chunks in a valiant effort to reach the end. If I hadn't already read many of Jodi Picoult's other novels before this one, I would have thought she was a bad author. She didn't do herself justice with this one. She is capable of a lot more.

I am a huge Picoult fan, and when I bought this book it actually made it's way through three friends before I got to read it myself. I did not like this book at all. It's an important topic, yes, but it's been done, and in not much different stlye then say, Sleeping with the Enemy, minus the killing, add in the Hollywood scene. It was frightfully long, and I just kept thinking, okay Jodi we get the point he's abusive, he's a tortured soul...don't torture me for it. She could have cut about 100 pages from the book, truly. There was a lot of filler, and unimportant events, and then too many beatings....we get the point already.
However, I give Picoult credit for her understanding of a situation a lot of women are in, staying with an abuser, blaming themselves. Picoult is a MASTER at building her characters, ... Read More

i read other books by this author. i though this would be as good. it was way off. the main character lexi starts off with a lousy life and is mousy looking. she wakes up after an accidentthat gives her amnesia with a rich life , a husaband and new job. but everything is not that great so she divorces her husband and changes her atitude. she had a lover and runs off with him at the end. her mother lives in a time warp, her dad was a deadbeat and her sister is rude. lexi was a loser than she was mean, then she was nice,.her husband was a jerk who loved her because of a makeover and i do not really know why she loved the guy she was having a n affair with. it only expalins that they had great sex. awful book
