This book was lousy, just another in the long line of flops for Grisham. I miss the old style of great story telling, this was to slow, never really got my attention, I read a lot of other books, kept coming back to this one to finish, finally my wife said, just put it away. I did, save your money on this one. I'm still holding out for a great story to come along.

First of all let me tell you that this plot is not new. The movie "Wag the Dog" starring Dustin Hoffman has a fake war too.
The story is well written and fast paced so you'll have a good time reading it but it also has some blunders.

Spoiler:
If you haven't read the book don't read this:

The plot is a little far-fetched because I really don't think that Russia or China will start a war just for hearing some scuttlebutt and not checking the truth of it. I think that part is utterly false and wrong not to mention that everybody will use the same dealer to buy war-ware.

This book starts with an emotional bang. Parents Mike and Tia Baye are very concerned about the behaviour of their son Adam. They have tried to reach out to him but he is acting out, runs away for days and they are at their wits end. Also playing a factor is the fact that his best friend recently committed suicide. Mike and Tia decide after much deliberation to put a spy program on Adam's computer so they can monitor his actions. All characters here are written very realistically and emotions and actions totally ring true.

We get to see inside the lives of many families - the Bayes, the family whose son committed suicide and a single father raising a daughter. All this family emotion provides suspenseful heartfelt action enough to carry the book. It expertly addresses many issues ... Read More

I have read all Jonathan Kellerman books, and always enjoyed them, this time I lost interest completely and finished it skiping a lot of pages as I did not care the book at all. What happened to to Dr. Delaware character? What happened with his psychologist skills? Why was he doing Milo's work? Why is the book so boring? I already bought the Kellerman's latest book: Bones and I am really hoping not having another dissapointment.

Sandford has his hero, Lucas Davenport, currently of the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, musing early that life is just chaotic, happenings that save, or take, lives. Weather, his wife and a medical doctor, believes in cause-and-effect. After a bloodily murderous story, Davenport convincingly restates his position, but in fact Sandford, the author, belies it by crafting a scintillating book that blinds one to the incredibly finely ordered plot lines.
This is a jewel of a book. It contains so artfully crafted a plot and set of characters you only see all the facets after the last chapter, looking back in awe at the smooth and so deceptive flow of words. There are Goths, domestics, big and little drug dealers, snitches, farmers, little old ladies, b---hy ladies, stage and sex actors, ghosts, ... Read More

I'm a Reacher fan, but this is a reach too far. There's supposed to be some military checkpoint on a public highway that just gets ignored, and some town where everyone knows what's going on but word never gets out...
Ignore for a second the anti-Iraq propaganda. The scale is simply too large to be believable. This is a comic book, not a thriller. Two stars is is probably generous, but I like the hero and the action.

Lisa Scottoline's humor has always been part of the fun of reading her books, but she really captures
the joy and eccentricities of the Italian-American world of South Philadelphia in this one. From the
opening chapter when lawyer/heroine Mary Dinunzo is approached by her father and his three friends
all named Tony - distinguished only by their nicknames Pigeon Tony (he raises pigeons), Tony-From-Down-The-Block and Tony Two Feet - to sue a woman from the Frank Sinatra Fan Club who publicly defamed Dean Martin by "calling him a drunk", the smiles and laughter keep on coming.

The main plot features 4 former high school friends of Mary, known as The Mean Girls, because they were the girls with big hair who smoked and "put out" (which made them popular), and were always ... Read More

This book was my introduction to Steve Martini. While the underlying premise is not plausible--that certain language in the Constitution about slavery could cause national unrest a couple of hundred years later when all kinds of remedial legislation has been enacted--the novel still presents an interesting murder mystery. At times it is true that Martini sometimes sounds like a professor in a trial advocacy course as he explains the technicalities involved in admitting evidence and general trial strategy. However, these discussions do not significantly slow down the action.

I don't feel that this novel is on the same level as John Grisham novels, but I still found it to be an entertaining read. Martini writes well, and the story progresses at a good pace as the reader tries to discover who killed the ... Read More

I am very disappointed in this novel of Mr. White's. I loved his last two books but this one was honestly boring. The beginning caught my attention and I was ready to enjoy a good mystery. There was such a lull in the book where most of the story was Alan trying to decide if he was going to sleep with different women while his wife was away. Then the same thing was there for Sam too. Was he or was he not going to sleep with this woman? The only real clue in the entire mystery in two thirds of the book was one lime green tennis shoe found. After reading three quarters of the book I gave up and tossed it. I hope his next novel proves to be more mystery and less sleeping around information. Being horney is no mystery.
