I once live on Beekman but moved before all the Redtop Yellow top saga really got moving, reading this book let me see what my brother and his kids lived through, Mr. Stone really captured the gang and there doings well

I picked up this book the last week of May and I finished it in 3 days!! This book was well written and a definite page turner. Not often found in most memoirs or biographies. I'm not one to read many biographies or memoirs, or at least until recently. I was surprised at how intriguing and interesting this book was. The narrative voice drew me in. haven't seen the movie yet but just read the book and it was a great read. I love it, can't wait to see the movie now. Heard great things about the movie as well. also an amazing value, it's a bargain!

I read this book in 3 days.. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the polticial system including the area leaders aka dons. She gives uncut stories about all the big mon that came up since the 1970s. She also gives great detail about how they came to Brooklyn and took over. You will be surprised to see how Seaga and Manley both financed the Concrete Jungle and Tivoli posee dem. I read Shower Posse and this book is way better because the writing is better and it is non biased.

I ordered this book at the same time I ordered Harlem Godfather: The Rap on my Husband, Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson, and I'm so glad I read that one first. Because when I started reading Gangsters of Harlem and got to the part on Bumpy Johnson I couldn't believe my eyes. Mr. Chepesiuk just jotted down all of the misinformation that's been floating around on Bumpy Johnson for years and is passing it on like it's research! All of the stuff about Bumpy attending the Avery Institute and a bunch of other nonsence is in this book, when if the author had bothered to talk to any of Bumpy's family and old friends he would have discoved all this stuff was wrong. If you want to find out the real story about Bumpy Johnson, read Harlem Godfather: The Rap on Bumpy Johnson which was written by Bumpy's wife. It also has a lot of stuff ... Read More

Ken Ivy's, "Pimpology: The 48 Laws of the Game," is a street psychology book best read by individuals who might be described as "Squares." Ivy demarcates between the value system of the "streets" versus that of mainstream America. He initially talks about the methodology of pimping (procuring women who are willing to pay for protection as she makes money selling sex), but transcends the term as a means of gaining money and power within any context. Unlike Sonny Barger and Billy Queen, Ruben Cavazos' writing style is very choppy and clumsy. It was at times, hard to understand. Almost all of the events are described without dates, so I was unable to envision a timeframe of his experiences. Throughout the book, Cavazos comes off as a serious prima donna. Important points in the history of the club, such as the war against their rivals, or the conflicts with a prison gang are glossed over and minimized. Whereas Barger's books all portray his club almost like the Salvation Army with a couple quirks, Cavazos described his club as dysfunctional and its members as "idiots." This, I was not expecting. I think the History Channel's "Gangland" TV series which covered the Mongols gives a better understanding of the organization.

This book was extremely informative from a historical account however my only beef is that it bounced in and out of stories too rapid. The book is packed with historical information. Peace!
