This book is amazing and frightening and at times you almost see a heart in the main character.

I find it truly amazing that ANYBODY could withstand 6 months of the undercover police work Joe Pistone indured, let alone 6 years. His insight into the inner-workings of the Mafia was very informative,interesting and frightning. A good read. Get it.

Wall to wall gore and brutality. Was I glad when this one was finally over? You bet. Not certain how much of this actually happened the way they claim, but it sure as hell seems to me the writers come mighty close. Might turn some stomachs, might leave others numb--or both. Makes the characters in The Godafather look like boy scouts.

The book, like the series, is filled with the appropriate mixture of sex, violence, and the more humdrum aspects of the lives of mafia boss Castellano and his associates. The writing is so-so, filled with opinions and dramatizations that wouldn't feel quite right in a more scholarly work. But the color keeps the book moving at a reasonable pace, and the recorded dialogue of the mob members is, by turns, horrifying and funny. this is one of the most frightening books i have ever read .to know this mayhem and murder goes on right around us.its inconceivible that such violent killers can be so gentle and devoted to their personal families go figure i cant. there is so much love in them for the family yet if you are on the wrong side of them boom you're gone. i really enjoyed the book from the standpoint that the story flows and the writings created images in my mind which were so realistic. i'm proud of my italian heritage and the culture itself having been to italy i know from first hand knowledge the depth and beauty of the culture. this book points out to me how anti italian are these evil people with their actions and beliefs it shames me to see that they claim to be of italian heritage. the italians ...
