Lucas Davenport experiences small town life through small town crime, and discovers that not all of his big city ways translate well in the snowed-in wilds of Wisconsin. It was nice to see him out of his element and in a setting that threw him for a loop. The descriptions of the winterscapes and the atmosphere of the town were very well written. I'd recommend this volume to anyone.

This is another solid police procedural by John Sanford. For me, it seemed to drag in places, but in all fairness, that could have just been my mood and circumstances that made parts of it difficult to stay interested in. All in all, I love the Prey series, and look forward to reading the next one.

Gotta love the "Prey" series...just when you think it can't get better...it DOES!!!! Mr Sanford is just awesome...sucks you right in and keeps you wanting more...and more...and believe me, he delivers!!!

This is the first entry in the Davenport series that I haven't just absolutely loved. The story lacked a soul. Rather than coming off as the tough cop, Lucas was an immature jerk. The women were flat. The Native American angle could have been amazing, instead it was it was vague; replace it with any other special interest group, and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. The pacing was poor, to the point where It took me a week and a half to drag myself through this volume. I'm glad I didn't start the series with this book, I probably wouldn't have picked up another one if I had.

I bought this book for my son for Christmas. He will love it. He collects all the Prey books by Sanford.

Mind Prey was a nice change of pace from other books in the series I've read, in that it dealt with getting live victims away from a killer/psychopath, rather than just being another murder investigation. The only issue I had with this one, was the lack of consistent pacing. There were points where it didn't feel like it was firing on all four. Other than that, this was another good read from a reliable author.

The police kill two bank robbers... women. The husband and brother of the two women,Dick LaChaise, together with two buddies forms a gang to revenge their deaths. The result is a bloody crime spree that includes hits of the police officer's relatives. Although well written and having no real sexual content, this for me is a very unpleasant book. It seems to dwell on the worst elements of crimes.

The first half of this book drags and drags. Between being caught up in the previous book in the series and the dull Wilson McDonald angle, this one didn't pick up until after the halfway point. When it finally did get going, it was a great ride to the end.

This entry in the Lucas Davenport series starts out great, with a professional hit-woman coming to town. And, for the first half of the book, the pro killer and the crazy lawyer who hired her make a good pair. By midway, the story has collapsed in on itself a bit, and becomes plodding. It tries, but never quite pulls itself out of the slump. There aren't any real pieces of character development, in terms of the main characters, in this book, and that felt out of place. If the author had replaced Lucas and Co. with another set of generic characters, this one would have worked quite well as a stand-alone.

What started as an interesting enough murder case quickly deteriorated into hundreds of pages about drugs and real estate that just bored me to tears. The characters were flat and the star of this book was Lucas' new Porche. Having read some of the later entries in this series, I'm glad to know that the series picks up again.
