This is a great book for beginners or some one moving from a point and shoot camera to a DSLR. The layout and content are great but if you have some experience either through a photography class high school or other you'll likely not find something you didn't already know.

This is a good book for understanding exposure, very detail-oriented. But for me, it's a little bit too technical. If anyone wants to explore into this area of interest, it's the book for you.

I consider myself an advanced amateur. Over many years I've progressed to the Nikon D300 with a nice assortment of gear. I bought this book after reading Scott Kelby's "Digital Photography Book-Volume 2," great book and very useful to amateur photographers. At the end of the book, Kelby strongly recommends "your next book" should be "The Moment It Clicks." So I ordered it. It is a fine book of pictures, with descriptions of how the majority of the photos were taken. However, you need to know this guy has more gear than imaginable (it's all pictured at the end of the book), and an assistant. Probably 98% of all the photos are taken with the aid of light boxes, movie lights, what have you. I guess my point is, unless you are an advanced professional, this is a nice book of pictures.

Every time a new edition of Photoshop comes out, I buy several of the how-to books. Each one contains different useful tips and tricks. Scott Kelby's is always the best, and this is no exception.

For example, have you ever wondered what LAB color is and why you should care? There's a step-by-step illustrated tutorial on how to give your color extra zip using this color mode.

In fact, there are illustrated tutorials on all of the major features of Photoshop. They include screenshots, which many other guides neglect.

Learn how to use layers to simulate filters, how to use shapes to create vector masks, how to create stunning special effects through collaging, retouching, and combining color touches with B&W.

Chances are, if you've seen a stunning ... Read More

If you're the type of person who just wants someone to tell you what steps to follow to achieve a certain effect, and who doesn't want to learn the underlying reasons for anything, this book is for you. If you are entertained by lame humor accompanying your cookie-cutter instructions, this book is also for you. If you really want to learn Photoshop thoroughly so you can handle any situation that pops up in a creative way, you'll have to turn elsewhere. Ironically, reading a lot of Scott's books, as well as books by others, especially Dan Margulis, may be the best course for you.

But you can't dispute that Scott Kelby is the best self-promoter digital imaging has ever seen, and he really knows how to take a little information and stretch it out to book length in a style that will please hundreds of ... Read More

I own an Imac. I've found this book, especially instructions related to printing, close to useless. Why is this so? Because the book is essentially designed for PC users, and details that a Mac user would need are offered as an afterthought. Which is to say they're cursory, poorly organized and often unclear. Photoshop Elements is complicated enough to learn without its capabilities being further muddied by someone who cannot think clearly or is basically uninterested in Macs. Many people, myself included, love using a Mac because we prefer not to spend hours tinkering with a computer (though I did that for years with a PC). This manual defeats the ultimate intent of owning a Mac. Someone needs to write a Photoshop Elements manual exclusively for Mac users. I regret having bought this one.

Matt Kloskowski made this book very easy to understand and the examples are very well explain.

This book is for anyone that wants to learn about Photoshop layers!!

I will keep my finger cross that Mr Kloskowski find the time and write another book in the subject. I WANT TO BUY THE FIRST ONE!

I've been shooting film for many years, but I recently got my first digital camera. While some things/skills transferred easily, I found the choices and technology confusing or disorienting. I bought this book based upon reviews, and it has been quite helpful. It was a bit disconcerting to find that my camera, Cannon's PowerShot A650IS, didn't fit well into the three basic types reviewed, but that was not a deal breaker. This book, along with lots of practice, has helped me adjust to digital, and now I'm not sure I'd ever go back to film. I'd recommend Jim Miotke's book to anyone switching to digital or to those who want to sharpen their skills and get better pictures. It is well illustrated and designed, and it sits next to my computer as a ready reference.
