Required reading for anyone looking to understand America's failure to kill bin Laden and take down al Qaeda soon after American military forces hit the ground in Afghanistan. The perspective is that of Delta Force commander "Dalton Fury" (pseudonym), whose men advanced against al Qaeda positions in the Tora Bora range alongside Afghan forces, coordinating American air strikes against al Qaeda positions until bin Laden was allowed to flee into Pakistan.

Fury's book supplants Jawbreaker: The Attack on Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda: A Personal Account by the CIA's Key Field Commander as the authoritative account given that Jawbreaker had much more of its content redacted by the CIA than military intelligence does to Fury's book published a few years later. Fury's book is also superior ... Read More

I had this book recommended to me by several people and finally bought it and read it. It is not as good as its fans want you to believe; nor as bad as its detractors would make it out.

First, the book is adequately written, but is not going to make anybody's top 100 list. It should be kept in mind that much of the credit or blame for the prose should probably be placed on the co-author Robinson, not Luttrel. My own criticism was that the book often seemed heavily redundant and repetitive. In most of those places, it was the repetition of the all liberals are the stupid, short-sighted, and ignorant henchmen of America's enemies theme which gave rise to that feeling. Whether you agree or disagree with that sentiment is irrelevant. The sentiment is one which only needed to ... Read More

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend its' readable and tasteful style- substance without too much gore. It has given me a deep respect for the military and shows how a man's faith in Jesus Christ can carry him through even the most difficult situations in life. The Bible was a constant source of strength to Boykin. He takes you behind the headlines and let's the reader see what really happened on some of those historical missions. Another intriguing book that will inspire you is Visual History of the English Bible, A: The Tumultuous Tale of the World's Bestselling Book. It tells the true stories of the heros of the Christian faith who stood by their principles and in some cases sacrificed their lives in order to bring the Bible to all people.Visual History of the English Bible, A: ... Micheal Yon's book is exceptional. It is, in my opinion, an absolute exercise in truth telling. You will be appalled at the blindness at the top of the command structure and, perhaps as I was, brought to an occasional tear at the creativity, courage and humanity of the soldiers on the ground.

If you are interested in as close to an unbiased view of what has gone on in Iraq this book is a must read. If you want your faith restored in the absolutly incredible capabilities of our armed services this book serves that pubpose in spades.

I completed this book with a renewed sense of an already strong pride in the quality of our fighting men and women.

I just finished the reading of this book, and it was amazing! Although this book is not primarily focused on the hard battles won by the Navy SEALs but rather about their role in supporting the conventional forces in al-Anbar province and all of the ball busting work associated with it. It was interesting how Mr. Couch approached this topic with the notion that the war in Ramadi was being lost, but as he details throughout the writing, this was very untrue. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like a realistic point of view of what's really going on overthere as well as those who are interested in learning about the melding of conventional forces with SOF and their capability to target the bad guys and win the hearts of minds of the people.

America Alone is a cogent analysis of the culture clash between western civilization and Islam. Steyn's brilliant composition is both enlightening and powerful. Mark Steyn segments his writing with great wit and humor, which makes his observations and arguments all the more entertaining.

This book is about a "secret" government agency called the Activity that has supposedly been involved with or behind a number of covert or clandestine missions for the past 40 years. Sounds interesting, but the author doesn't really provide a lot of new information. The Activity is mentioned as being involved, but the author also refers to the CIA, Delta, DevGru, DIA, SAS and other known groups who were known to have been involved. The Activity is supposed to have the toughest training of any special operations group, but they don't really seem to do much (according to this book). They're more on the intel side than the operations side. Which is fine, but again, not a lot of information on how they gather intel or use it.

This book was suggested to me by the mother of a Marine. I was going to say ex-Marine but there is no such thing. She said it was as close to the real thing as you could get. Her son was in Iraq three times but I don't think he told her the real thing. This book is good and it has it's moments. Enough so that I wouldn't want to trade places with any of these American hero's. I haven't finished the book yet but it tracks with my worst imaginings of what Iraq must be like. God bless our armed forces!

OK. After glancing at the excellent reviews, I probably will continue to read this book. I am giving a rating only because posting the review requires it. In fact, I haven't finished the book. But what caused me to leave the book to see what others thought of it is this:
On page 30, upon Burton's entering the CIA headquarters for the first time, I read "" ... a statue of Nathan Hale, a Revolutionary War spy who went to a British hangman's noose with the immortal words 'Give me liberty or give me death' on his lips."
Give me liberty or give me death? Those are certainly immortal words! Nathan Hale? It's been quite a while since I took American history, but that quote is attributed to Patrick Henry. Hale is remembered for the words "I regret that I have but one life to give to my country."
So what made me pause ... Read More

This was an incredibly exciting and informative book. Although absolutely authentic, the biography at times read like a fictitious thriller. I would highly recommend this account of the Mossad to anyone who studies this region or anyone interested in spy novels. The imagery is terific, and Ross does a terrific job of placing his work in the context of world history between 1990 and 2002. I would have enjoyed more details on his different excursions, but then again much of his story is confidential.
