The program has changed hands a few times and if you get a newer one, it may run better. Riverdeep and/or The Learning Company usually fix up old programs that they acquire, and the program might not be too bad if the interface were improved and the installation worked as it should. BUT the one we got (elsewhere, not here) was version 1.1, and came from the original manufacturer (MECC). I'm looking at a photo here on this product listing that shows the MECC logo on the box, not The Learning Company. So I'd suggest asking the vendor what version is provided. We could not install version 1.1 correctly under Windows XP, and only after some experimentation could we run it at all, loading from the CD and not from the hard drive. My 8-year-old daughter loves this. And I like it, too, because it is teaching her some logical reasoning in an entertaining setting. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of two small flaws: - you can't stop the game and save it at each level, you have to get through a few. This makes it harder to have her stop when it is time to go to bed / go to school / etc. For the parent's sake, please make games easy to save at any point. - getting all the zombini's forward is a bit repetitive. On the plus side, though, this does make sure she really learns the lessons and becomes adept at solving the logical puzzles. Nice game!

as with the little bear toddler discoveries; this game that i just purchased also does not work properly. i am assuming since there are several other reviewers that had the same problem that it is not my newer computer. i had a computer tech come to check it out and he said that it was the software; although not defective; just unable to perform on most computers. very disappointed to find that out as the little bear games are not only developmentally appropriate for teh ages they are geared toward but they also offer children an opportunity to play in a non-aggressive manner; which many computer games do not offer. no point in sending it back as a replacement (if i coudl even get one) would still perform the same so we play until the game freezes or locks up on us or wont let us move on to the next ... This adaptation of the wonderful story of the little fruit bat Stellaluna is absolutely engaging. With terrific graphics and music is is a must-have for anyone wishing to tell the positive story of cultural diversity. There is a great deal of acceptance; the birds accept Stellaluna even though she has some peculiar habits (hanging upside down)and Stellaluna even learns to eat worms although she'd much prefer fruit. A lovely story made even better by the rich visuals and music.

I loaded this software on 4 different computers and it would not run. I believe it is because it a very old software and will not run on XP but I'm not sure. In past years this has been a very reliable company (Broderbund) but if they are not going to support the software they should not be selling it.
