My boys really enjoy this math game, however it seems pretty simple and they were able to finish the game relatively quickly. I think it is a good buy.

I tried 3-4 Reader Rabbit Programs. They are hard to use. The navigation is not good. It takes significant learning effort to get used to the programs. I work in Software from 10 years. If its difficult to navigate for me, the kids definitely will not be able to navigate freely. It will not allow you to skip something. If the kids are using the same thing again and again and They want to skip the things they are bored of they are out of luck. It will not allow skip. Apart from that the program is educational. Another negative: The program does not install on computer. Every time you need to put the CD in to run the program. Instead of struggling with Reader Rabbit, I would highly recommend the Leapfrog Letter Factory and Math Circus. In fact I bought all Leapfrog DVD titles one ... Read More

Back in the early 90's, I played a game called Oregon Trail II. It was a fun game with great music, detailed art, decent animation and voice acting, as well as a lot of historical information. It was a huge upgrade over the basic versions on Apple and early Windows, and I enjoyed it a lot. Fast-forward to the 21st century, where Oregon Trail 5th Edition has been released for Windows XP and Vista. Anyone who played OT2 (or related versions) will recognize this game just from the back of the box, but if you're looking for nostalgia, you'll be sorely disappointed. If the game simply felt dated, that would've been a problem, but this version is actually a regression, not to mention broken. I purchased this software because my kid's daycare uses Reader Rabbit. I picked this version since it was preschool to K & I've got a 3yr old & a 5yr old & I wanted something (for my first purchase of software) that they could both use. It's a two disk set with one for the preschool & the other is K. The preschool has less "story" to it; it has more games, songs, & a zillion printable activities (we haven't done them since the kids computer isn't hooked up to a printer-- another thing they might break). Some games are matching letters or shapes, while harder games have the child pick the right word for the sentence (if you move your mouse over words, etc, the sentence/word is read for the child). I got this as a gift for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it. In fact, she loves all the reader rabbit series that we have so far (which is most of them). I would highly recomend any of them.

The kids picked it up in no time (ages 9 & 6.) Me, I couldn't figure it out but at least they enjoyed it. However they beat it in one day.

i'm not sure if it was just me or what, but all three computers i have tried it on, it didn't work very well. it crashed constantly. i got around it by saving my game a lot, but it was still annoying. if you look beyond the crashing, it is pretty fun, but it also installed without sound. given the fact that it is so cheap, i think it would be worth while for you to try it, but beware the potential bugs.
