I hope that this is the closest that I ever come to combat in my life. Thank God for the men that put their lives on the line to keep us, and the world, free. Hats off to Spielberg for the realism of the combat. That should be enough for all of us to make a promise to ourselves to personally thank as many vets as we can for serving to keep us free. War is no walk in the park, and this movie comes closest to capturing just how close to hell it really is. This movie teaches a lot about sacrifice, courage, heroism, and emotion. Sometimes there are causes greater than our own selves which are worth sacrificing for. A great movie for this era. Too many men of that generation have passed away - this captures a little bit of what was special about that generation. A must see for all kids as soon as they are capable ... Read More

Definitely one of the best Vietnam war movies out there. It is more about the psychological trama of the Vienam war which I liked. It can seem a little out there from time to time but that's to get the viewer to understand it from the main character's point of view. This is definitely not for the younger kids out there and it is pretty intense. It is a must have for any DVD collection. It is one of those classic movies everyone has to see at least once. The acting is amazing. Just an overall great movie.

This is my first purchase of anything that had to deal with the 2nd world war. Sure, I've watched Private Ryand and Bands of Brothers but this series showed the makeup behind the USA getting slapped at Pearl Harbor. If anyone is looking for a history lesson via the DVD arena, this series sums it up within 15 hours.

VHS : The Rebels: Part 2 of the Kent Family Chronicles
i love john jakes kent family novels but i have to say the rebels was the least of the books.very little war happens in it and the two main people the novel follows never meet.
well the mini-series takes care of all of that and is a very good rousing adventure story with a great cast and the best sound track of any of the jakes mini-series. andrew stevens once again plays philip kent and is joined by a young don johnson as judson flecher. the action flows nicely in this one and the cast is great. do yourself a favor and check this one out.

The TV picture was awesome. Lots of action with great action. What also really impressed me was the sound, If you are a World War II movie fan, then this is a must addition to your library.
I purchased this picture as a gift for my son who lives and works in Thailand. I was concerned that it wouldn't play on his Play Station 3 Japanese unit. FYI it worked just fine.

VHS : Patton
First let me say that I loved the acting and George C. Scott provided one of the greatest acting performances in a film. However, this movie is flawed, fatally flawed, when it comes to the real Patton. Yes, much is true, but much is from the perspective of a man, that we now know since his death and the availability of his writings, hated Patton. That person was the technical consultant on this movie and his name is General Omar Bradley. Without wishing to get into arguments on whom was right or wrong in a given situation since they were both typical generals and therefore prim a donas, the one-sided perspective in this movie always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. For example, Bradley hated Montgomery as much as Patton and would speak it but we never see this in the movie since Bradley evidently thought it would make him look ... Read More

Well as a former US Army Tanker, I am writing this from that view. I had the privilege of serving with good soldiers, who on one occassion watched this movie together, as a company. The critisicm never ended.
I do like the actors in this movie, but the background, tactics and overall unit organizations shown in this picture, were pitiful. I can understand the equipment that had to be used to film this picture, but the dialogue could of been much more based on military reality. I feel that all the sides protrayed in this picture were not done proper justice. They were protrayed as a bunch of amatuers, fighting a war, like hollywood amatuers playing at war. This picture was put together like a bunch of pix up stix, that were put up half way and forgotten.

10.The Longest Day starring: John Wayne, Robert Ryan, Richard Burton, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum

VHS : The Longest Day
This is a 1962 attempt to be an accurate rendition of D day, based on Cornelius Ryan's book, "The Longest Day", when the allied forces of world war two crossed the English Channel and fought their way up the beaches of France. The whole film is of the events of that day.

The list of popular actors playing the parts of the various countries and ethnicities of the time is too long to mention in this review. However Eddy Albert (a method actor) was quite believable and contributed much to the energy of this rendition. Be sure to see Eddy Albert again in uniform in "Teahouse of the August Moon" (1956.) And that little cutie Irina Demark was the girlfriend of the producer, Darryl F. Zanuck.

You can tell this picture was remastered some time recently as it looks as crisp as the day it was made. And you can only find ... Read More
