How can it be that Walter Matthau's best performance, especially a comedy performance, is not available on DVD? It's a shame, because this is arguably the most brilliant dark comedy from that wonderful golden age of grown-up films from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. This movie is way too funny and brilliant to be this undercover and cult. Elaine May is to comedy what Coppola and Scorsese were to drama. Her writing is as good as comedy writing gets, and her performance gives a glimpse at how wonderful a comic actress she really is. No B.S. either. This one of the great comedies. Can't believe it's not on dvd. Not to be missed. I remember seeing this on tv when I was a little girl and thinking, that is a wonderful world those two people live in. It played the midnight show in college and the crowd ... Read More

The Grinch was a great film if you're eight. But for everyone else it's okay. Granted, the sets were amazing, it has heart and Jim Carrey is brillaint but the film wasn't as funny I thought it could've been. The film is good family entertainment though.

I have always enjoyed this film, and make it a point to watch it at least once a year, usually around the holidays. It's not a family film, so it is definitely not something you'll want to watch with small children present. The theatrical version contains some language which might be objectionable to viewers of any age.

The story itself is very basic -- there's nothing complex to remember. It's simply a story of a man trying to get home in time for Thanksgiving dinner, only to have every transportation option work against him. The twist is that he teams up with a complete stranger in their quest to get to where they need to be. It's in this vain that the unfortunate but often hilarious events take place. The comedy in this film runs from a chuckle to side-splitting laughter. Things are often ... Read More

VHS : Pretty Woman
One of those movies you watch every time it comes on television because it's so cute, yet one of those movies you're almost ashamed to adore because it has almost no redemptive features; `Pretty Woman' has become an instant classic for almost no reasons at all. Sure, it's cute, but so aren't a lot more respectable films.

Oh yeah, I forgot; Julia Roberts is amazing here.

So, that answers all questions doesn't it? Why do we love this movie? We love it because it gave us Julia, our beloved Julia. She is charming and warm and heartbreaking and moving and memorable and sincere and we just want to eat her up in every scene. The problem with `Pretty Woman' is that when you take Roberts' magnetism out of the equation you have a rather empty film that relies on clichés to carry it across ... Read More

One of my favourite films. This has incredible one liners, great slapstick, Bill Murray at his best and a really strange but completely great premise behind the whole thing.

Superb.

VHS : Arsenic & Old Lace
I recently purchased this classic black and white movie starring Cary Grant, and I really liked it. I had seen it many times when I was younger but the last time I had seen it was several years ago late at night on some satellite channel. When I first watched this dvd I realized that the version I had always seen on T.V. had been edited. The difference between the dvd and T.V. version were that the introductory screen credits to the movie was a Halloween cartoon and there were several other scenes that had been edited or deleted altogether. There were a few special features but nothing too exciting.
I would have rated this movie as perfect except for the fact that it has outdated slapstick humor and of course it is only b&w (black and white). I would have preferred for it to be available as both a b&w and colorized ... Read More

There is probably problems with licensing parts of the Soundtrack... One Part in particular ~ The Dead Kennedy's song playing while they are all in the Kitchen... Holiday in Cambodia. There have been lawsuits over this song between band members and Jello Biafra when Levi's wanted to use it in a commercial. Royalty payment disputes and the like. It has probably killed any chance of getting this film released on DVD.

VHS : Father of the Bride (1991)
Although over the top re what is normal, enough of the movie is close enough to what happens to a father of a bride that the movie is a must see for all fathers who are about to give away their daughter, as I am.
