VHS : Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York
This review is not for the movie, which i love, i grew up on this one. It's for the DVD. It is letterbox and looks like crap on a widescreen tv. Wait for them to re-master this one like they did for the original in the 'Family Fun Edition' which i recommend. Do Not, i repeat, DO NOT waste your money on this one. Hope this helps someone not make the mistake i did.

VHS : Planes Trains & Automobiles
I have always enjoyed this film, and make it a point to watch it at least once a year, usually around the holidays. It's not a family film, so it is definitely not something you'll want to watch with small children present. The theatrical version contains some language which might be objectionable to viewers of any age.

The story itself is very basic -- there's nothing complex to remember. It's simply a story of a man trying to get home in time for Thanksgiving dinner, only to have every transportation option work against him. The twist is that he teams up with a complete stranger in their quest to get to where they need to be. It's in this vain that the unfortunate but often hilarious events take place. The comedy in this film runs from a chuckle to side-splitting laughter. Things are ... Read More

7.Pretty Woman starring: Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Hank Azaria, Judith Baldwin, Ralph Bellamy

VHS : Pretty Woman
One of those movies you watch every time it comes on television because it's so cute, yet one of those movies you're almost ashamed to adore because it has almost no redemptive features; `Pretty Woman' has become an instant classic for almost no reasons at all. Sure, it's cute, but so aren't a lot more respectable films.

Oh yeah, I forgot; Julia Roberts is amazing here.

So, that answers all questions doesn't it? Why do we love this movie? We love it because it gave us Julia, our beloved Julia. She is charming and warm and heartbreaking and moving and memorable and sincere and we just want to eat her up in every scene. The problem with `Pretty Woman' is that when you take Roberts' magnetism out of the equation you have a rather empty film that relies on clichés to carry ... Read More

8.Stuart Saves His Family starring: Al Franken, Laura San Giacomo, Vincent D'Onofrio, Shirley Knight, Harris Yulin

VHS : Stuart Saves His Family
There are about ten laughs in this film by smarmfart Al Franken. Worth seeing once.

But Franken's brilliant creation is Stuart himself.

Full disclosure: I loath Franken's politics and most of his other humour, but this work is a brilliant exception.

Stuart Saves his family is an overlong extension of a SNL skit about "Stuart" the over twelve-stepped psychological casualty of our continuously self-indulgent selves. Rather than overcome his traumas, Stuart nurses them like a bacteriological growth in an inner Petri dish. He stumbles through a series of activities where his therapiezed world view provides conflict with others functioning normally (operating thetans), and abnormally (everyone in his family). I never really got the works of LRH, but his paranoia about "the ... Read More

Excellent interpretation of Homer's Odyssey with a rare accurate portrayal of the South of the 1930s. Excellent character actors and outstanding music played in the period style.

10.Disney's 101 Dalmatians starring: Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels, Joely Richardson, Joan Plowright, Hugh Laurie

VHS : Disney's 101 Dalmatians
Modern technology has taken live-action filmmaking to limitless heights, but there are still some stories that are more suited for feature-animation. Dodie Smith's "The Hundred and One Dalmatians" is one of them. Walt Disney knew this and his "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" is one of the most loved animated films of all time. Unfortunately, director John Hughes did not and his live-action remake, "101 Dalmatians, comes up short in the end.

It is not a bad film, but it is incredibly awkward and extremely unfocused at times. Instead of a seamless blend of animal and human characters, we are now forced to get involved almost solely with the two-legged heroes of the picture, which is occasionally sweet, but obviously not right for a film that is supposed to be about dogs. Pongo and Perdita along with ... Read More
