Adrian Paul is just as Hunky as ever. If you are an Adrian Paul fan, and will forgive a bit of overacting, you may like this version of "Masque of the Red Death".
All others should stay away. The acting is either way over the top, or some of the most wooden acting you can imagine. I believe a High School Drama Department could act circles around most of the folks in this production.
If you are looking for a movie so that you don't have to read the story by Poe....go read the story, its great.....besides, this version is only tenuously related to Poe's original work.

I remember watching this movie on showtime or hbo back in the 80's and I know it was the movie that I still talk about that really made me jump in a projectile mode across the couch. I was hoping to get it in DVD so as to show it to a roommate of mine. Just can't find it except in VHS tape. That saddens me.

Re-reading the reviews here, I see they were pretty much all by kids who are talking about how much they like various actors and actresses. But the shocking thing is that this film got a FOUR STAR review (out of five) from Mick Martin and Marsha Porter, whom I usually can depend on to be reasonable. I have no problem with the premise, that the new woman marrying the boy's dad after the disappearance six months earlier of his true mother can metamorphose into a monster -- or "krepotkin". (She also arranged the mother's disappearance.) I've been an SF fan for many years years, so I can imagine a plot based on such an idea done well. But the plot here turns out to be totally illogical. The monster kills (and eats) two people within a few blocks of the boy's house and nobody seems to be investigating ... Read More

As a Krista Allen fan, The Haunted Sea certainly belongs in my bookcase. She shoulders the lead, and without ruining the film for anyone, Ms Allen does as well as the script and director permit. The creature effects reminded me of my days at the matinees during the '50s. Historical accuracy goes out the window, so just kick back with your finger on the rewind button for the Krista Allen scenes.:)

Raving About Roger Corman's The Raven (1963)

Every October my daughter and I pick up a few spooky movies to get into the Halloween groove. This year, I had the pleasure of introducing her to one of my all time favourite horror comedy classics, Director Roger Corman's "The Raven." The screenplay is adapted (VERY loosely) from the famous Edgar Allan Poe poem. This is one of Corman's many American International Picture adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe's works, and one of his best.

As the king of "b" horror movies, Corman knew had to make the most out of a tight budget. His stylish films consistently used good source material, well written screenplays, lavish set designs, locations, props, costumes and great horror stars. "The Raven" boasts no less a cast than Vincent Price, ... Read More

VHS : Haunted Palace (1963)
An American couple travel abroad to haunted olde England to claim an inheritance, which is a strikingly beautiful castle high up on a hill overlooking a gloomy peasant village.

When entering the town pub for some directions, the resident drunken peasants are rude, fearful, & stuporstitious, when finally, a doctor explains the peasants' actions, & guides them to their inheritance.

The castle carries a nefarious connotation, a veritable "place that god forsook", where a Warlock bearing a frightening resemblence to the visiting American once resided, & who in fact, is the ancestor, whose dark magic left freakish anomeles upon the descendants of those who murdered him by the stake's flame. And indeed, his "generational curse" is plainly evident upon the deformed peasants to this day, ... Read More

Many are unaware, but this movie was based on a book titled above and changed in order to cash in on the commercial sounding horror teen market. This is known to be a "cult favorite" among my best friend and I. The title is a bit misleading as it is not so much a horror flick but more like an action suspense. The plot is simple enough: The start of what appears to be a fun and innocent summer at sleepaway camp is interrupted when a young C.I.T. who is bent on taking control of situations, finds a way to get other members of the young staff to overthrow the camp management in order to have their own revolution. Considering the severity of this action, and without adult supervision, routine soon becomes a memory and things get out of control. The leader of the revolution, Franklin Riley, declares himself a "General" and ranks others ... Read More
