First off let me say i never saw the original TCM.ive seen trailers for it and it never attracted me,the remake however i really like.Tom Savini's effects are really good but there are only a handfull of kills.chop top really is the high point of this movie but its still a pretty good movie to watch.i found it enjoyable and even funny at times.i know people who like the original dont like this one but honestly the original TCM looks boring,i LOVE horror and have never been interested in seeing it until the remake.i recomend you at least rent this one to see it as this is a "hate it or love it"type of movie.but the chainsaw duel is just great to see and that alone is worth owning this movie for along with all the scenes with chop top.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre tripped me out when I first rented it on VHS a few years ago. It was around 2001 and I rented it because I was like 13 and Bored! So me and friends watched it late at night, and everyone disliked it, cause they were idiots. I loved it! The film is so bizzare. Its just this old movie with a group of friends discovering an obandoned farmhouse near one of the girl's grandparents' old house. In the farmhouse lives a strange, sadistic murderer and his entire family! It's so creepy and trippy cause you don't see it coming, especially when you don't really know anything about the series whatsoever. It was really scary and strange and artistic. I really enjoyed it. It's filmmaking at it's finest. Easily one of the greatest indie films I have ever seen and the best horror film ... Read More

My header says it. "Actor" McConaughey has never been convincing in anything he has done. This guy's acting is always surface, surface, surface--and is never able to deliver a believable line. He basically ruins this flick.
Renee Zellweger doesn't belong here either.

Let's face it, the first TCM was the only truly good one. Was it a fluke? Quite possibly. When was the last time you saw a great scare flick made by Tobe Hooper or Kim Henkel?

I wouldn't hold my breath.

This remake of TCM doesn't really add anything new to the horror genre, nor is it necessarily an improvement when compared with the original, but when viewed without any expectations it makes for a solid thriller.

The formula is pretty standard: Pretty kids get shredded in creative ways by a gruesome killer. What I liked most about this film is the well crafted atmosphere of isolation and decrepitude. The environs of the forgotten little southern town where all this takes place are creepy yet believable, albeit in a "all southerners are inbred crazies" sort of way.

The film contains enough gore but doesn't go over-the-top, and it's clever enough to keep leatherface at least partially concealed for the majority of the film. They also made the good call of casting Jessica Biel, who's ... Read More

I first saw this this low budget horror film on the silver screen when it was first released in the nineteen seventies. I went to see it with my then husband and spent most of the film cowering under my jacket. I remember it as one of the most frightening films that I had ever seen.

Time has jaded me somewhat, as I was able to watch it the second time around without resorting to cowering under my jacket. Of course, the second time I saw it was on my television screen and not a giant theatre screen, which probably helped. It is still, however, one of the most frightening films ever made.

Based upon a true story of a nineteen fifties psycho named Ed Gein, the film has a quasi-documentary feel to it with its grainy footage and cast of virtual unknowns. The film is a visual cornucopia of terror ... Read More

Yes, it was made on the cheap and shot on tape, but so what? Could be that was the best the filmmaker was able to do.
We're grateful for the privilage of seeing these exemplary actors interviewed. Not only are they superstars of horror, but so talented, in my opinion, that they could have done terrific work in any genre. And I have been saying this for decades.
Why hasn't it happened? Why haven't they been given work in mega-budgeted "mainstream" films? Simple: because the horror genre (I state this appreciating almost every genre, with the exception of the romantic comedy, which I loath with a passion) is cinema's black sheep. Mind you, not to those who revere it and know it takes just as much hard work and sweat to make a great scare flick as it does any other type of flick, but to those who not only can't ... Read More
