VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Destiny (Vol.1)
There's just something about a girl turning 16 in Japan that just brings on a tragic fate these days (Witness Scrapped Princess). Aya Mikage and her twin brother Aki have been invited to what they think is a party at their grandfather's sprawling mansion but is really something more sinister. The two are set before a table surrounded by family and some guys that look like the agents from The Matrix and Aya is asked to open a box. Inside is a stone hand which shatters when she looks at it as beside her, Aki begins to scream and become covered in bleeding cuts as if being sliced by an invisible knife! Somehow, the whole ritual was a sort of test to help the family make a decision to kill her and her father is given the gun to shoot her in the head! What the flip is wrong with these people??!! ... VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Resolve (Vol. 4)
The character Chidori appears in this tape and adds more drama to the show. But she also gives out a lot of comedy as she openly expresses a crush for Yuuhi who thinks she's only 12 or 13(she's really 16). Meanwhile, Aki is being taken over slowly by an alter ego that is literally making him go mad. By the end of the tape, Tooya gets in a bloody battle with Mikage guards to escape with Aki. Will Tooya survive in time to meet Aya? Will Aki escape and take control of himself? Just have to buy the tape to find out! :D

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Denouement (Vol. 8)
Mikage's plan to evolve the human race with the help of an illuminati style group of leaders from all over the world is coming to a dead-end as most of the C-Genome carriers he has gathered begin to sicken and die. Even Aya herself will die unless she can get her hands on Ceres' Celestial Robe. Aki, meanwhile, fully transforms into the long dead husband of Ceres as he aquires the synthetic Robe that Mikage constructed with the energy of the C-Genome women and seems intent not only on getting Ceres back....but killing her! The event that starts all this rolling is a farewell concert by one of the few C-Genome girls still free, who is a pop idol. She uses her show to throw a parting shot at the Mikage corporation in the form of a giant energy release that almost destroys its headquarters.

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Past Unfound (Vol. 2)
When we left off last volume, Aya had just transformed into Ceres, the celestial being, after her mother tried to kill her. The mysterious red-haired Toya has also shown up to capture her, even though he seems to have feelings for Aya. Ceres swears to destroy the Mikage family, which includes Aki, Aya's brother, who just happens to be the reincarnation of the man that stole her celestial robe, which kept her from returning to Heaven. Unfortunately, the brother that she loves can do nothing to help Aya's personality reemerge, because Ceres' hate is so strong. It's up to Yuhi to change her back to Aya, and he does so by kissing her! The main villain, Aya's cousin, begins to assert himself in this volume. He wants to harness the power of Ceres for a secret project and is willing to harm Aya to get to Ceres.

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - C-Genome (Vol. 3)
Kagami, Aya's nefarious uncle, begins to bring out his real plans in this 3rd volume of Ceres. Aya and Suzumi are not the only ones that have continued the bloodline of the original celestial maiden. There are many others spread around Japan and Kagami has begun to meddle with their DNA by adding a "C-Genome" which while heightening the test subject's power, also shortens their life. One such test subject is a classmate of Aya's who is having an affair with the school doctor. When the doctor thinks Aya is going to tell on them, he sends the girl to kill her, not knowing that she now has the power to control flames! Another complicating factor in all this is that Toya has also joined the school medical staff to keep near Aya! We do get a little more background on Yuhi in these episodes and find out why he was cast out ... Read More

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Progenitor (Vol. 5)
I'm a very avid Yu Watase fan. Even though this particular series was a bit slow, and with a poor story line in the beginning, it really has taken on the true Yu Watase feel in this volume. I highly recommend it, but do read or see the other 4 before getting this one...

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Double (Vol. 6)
Volume 6 starts out with a battle between Ceres and Miori, who along with sharing her bloodline, also can transform into an exact copy of the Celestial Maiden. Miori was just supposed to capture Ceres, but for her own reasons, she wants to KILL Aya. At the same time this is happening, Toya is having to deal with his cherished goal of regaining his memories being smashed to bits again, and then he has Aki, or the body of what of used to be Aki, breathing down his neck, wanting to crush his skull for messing around with his woman Ceres!

Volume 6 of Ceres is probably the best volume since the first disk because it focuses mostly on Aya and Toya by themselves, giving their relationship a space to grow, and also allows them to grow as characters, especially in the closing episode when they remember how they first ... Read More

VHS : Ceres, Celestial Legend - Requiem (Vol. 7)
While Aya and her pals are just laying around the house enjoying themselves, they seem to have forgotten they have the powerful Mikage family breathing down their necks along with a reincarnated psycho who wants to rape Ceres. I guess these important things just slipped their minds. So, anyway, Chidori and Shota end up getting taken captive just as soon as Yuhi leaves them. He vows to rescue them and gets together some of his family's security agents along with Toya to sneak into the Mikage building, leaving an ailing Aya behind.

This is probably the most lamebrained volume of the Ceres series so far. I don't understand why the characters just feel like they can just lay around doing nothing, knowing the Mikage group will stop at nothing to get their hands on Aya and other C-Genome girls. They don't try to go ... Read More
