VHS : Ode to Billy Joe
*********** SPOILER ALERT ***********

This was a well-acted portrayal of teen heartache and heartbreak.

The lyrics of the theme song by Bobbie Gentry allegedly had some basis in truth.

Max Baer Jr.'s production of this film gave him a vehicle to break out of his "Jethro Bodine" stereotype.

A young Mackenzie Philips played Bobbie Lee's friend.

When I saw this film as a youth one of my schoolmates reached the conclusion that "Billy Joe was gay". I disagreed then and I still do.

Billy Joe was young, intoxicated, and taken advantage of by an older man. There was nothing to suggest that he was on the prowl, searching for male partners. If anything, he was totally in love with and attracted to his girl.

I've seen this movie several times and decided to purchase for my library. One of the movies that you can see something new in each time you watch it. A classic that will be around like Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz.

VHS : All This & Heaven Too
Most books are better than their film renditions, with a few exceptions. I personally enjoy the movie based upon Rachel Field's "All This and Heaven, Too" more than I ever liked the original novel. Not that the book is dull; it is based upon a true event. Rachel's great uncle married the infamous Henriette Deluzy-Desportes. Mademoiselle Deluzy was accused of complicity in a murder which rocked France and ignited the Revolution of 1848. After her release from the Conciergerie she fled to America where she married the Protestant minister Mr. Field.

The film, however, brings all the characters and their vying passions to life far better than does the novel. Charles Boyer wavers on the brink of insanity as the honorable but tormented Duc de Choiseul-Praslin. Scion of an ancient but impoverished ... Read More

VHS : Sabrina (Commemorative Edition)
'Sabrina' is by far one of the greatest romantic comedies ever put on celluloid. Everyone here is pitch-perfect: Hepburn, Holden, Bogie and the incomparable Billy Wilder. This is a classic Cinderella-esque story of a young, poor girl hopelessly in love with the son of her father's employer. After she goes off to live in Paris for a few years, she returns a ravishing young woman. Then the fun ensues.

Not much else to think about here, just a great story for anyone who's ever had a crush on someone that doesn't know you exist. Funny, playful, sweet and romantic, 'Sabrina' is one of the great studio-era films.

What is it all these people are praising? I saw nothing of the quality which they seem to see. Rock Hudson was ridiculous! James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor are too young to play their roles, no matter how much silver the make-up people spray into their hair. It was so long and boring. The blocking was clumsy and stilted. What else can I say? I could only get through one hour of this disaster. Academy Awards? Give me a break.

It took the powers that be years to decide to release this film on Region 1 DVD format. This is a brilliant film about relationships and love and life. The French know how to make a film that stays with you, there ain't no hollywood ending here. So worth the wait.

I think this movie good. I wish all of you can see this movie. It is a very good movie. This movie was a lot of fun. I liked watching this movie when I watched it. Well, it really was funny so I thought I would see if anybody really read these reviews. I liked Jane Fonda back in 1966 or at least the movies she was making around that time. This is not like SUNDAY IN NEW YORK, my favorite with her, but you should like this movie anyway.

This British New Wave film is in the social comment style of A Taste of Honey and A Kind of Loving and it is one of the best of these films. The relationship between the two mates in the story has been misunderstood since gay liberation and so therefore has the film. The film is about the disillusionment of youth in the modern world. The story has two young mates enjoying the freedom of the roads on their motorbikes while facing having to grow up in the modern adult world. One of them gets married and finds himself entangled in the responsibilities of marriage, while the other (Dudley Sutton's character) is determined to avoid this fate and keep his motorbike and the freedom of the roads, so he has nothing to do with girls. However at the end of the film, when the two mates finally part to go their separate ways, Dudley Sutton's ... Read More
