VHS : Howard the Duck
Howard the Duck must be one of the best movies I ever saw while I was growing up. When I found out how horrible the movie did box-office wise, I thought, Okay, what went wrong? The movie takes home 4 razzies including worst picture of 1986 and George Lucas disowns the picture afterwards. Pixar Animation was founded because of this movie. That should account for something (check out IMDB.com for that). As for the DVD, on dvdverdict.com somebody interviewed director Willard Huyck and writer Gloria Katz and they were surprised when the movie wasn't available on DVD yet. Willard said they may have to talk to George Lucas to get the movie available on Region 1. If Universal ever puts it out on DVD I hope that Howard the Duck gets the special edition treatment it deserves in widescreen no doubt. ... Read More

I have waited years to see this movie again. Of course, it's not as creepy as I remembered it but I still enjoyed it. A must addition to my sci fi collection.

VHS : The X-Files (Movie)
My family has recently become huge fans of the X-files TV show (thanks to reruns on the Sci Fi channel), so we were excited to see that they had actually released a movie back in the late 90's. I read several of the bad reviews that this movie received, but we really liked it when we first watched it. True, it's a little different from the TV series in that it was hard for them to try & fit in all of the usual cast members, but overall, we were really surprised at just how much we liked this movie. It was very suspenseful & it kept us rivited to the very end. Can't wait to see the new 2008 movie version as well!

6.I Come in Peace starring: Dolph Lundgren, Brian Benben, Betsy Brantley, Matthias Hues, Jay Bilas

VHS : I Come in Peace
Essentially, "I Come In Peace" (aka "Dark Angel") is a great idea that was only moderately well exectued. With the exception of appearing in a religious drama, this is probably the strangest vehicle for action hero Dolph Lundgren to get himself over, and to some degree, the Swedish Superman makes it work, but even along with the passing performances of the rest of the cast and a pretty original bad guy, "Peace" ends up being forgettable due to its uninspired pacing and overall lack of action.

Jack Caine (Lundgren) is a vice cop who's earned himself notoriety for doing things his way, much to the dislike of the department. After being assigned a by-the-book partner whom he frequently finds himself at odds with (Brian Benben, "Radioland Murders"), Caine's personal war on Houston's drug cartel takes ... Read More

Usually remakes of films that were successful the first time don't succeed but sometimes they do like in this sci-fi/horror film by Philip Kaufman. Aided by a great cast headed by Donald Sutherland in a rare good guy role, Brooke Adams, Jeff Goldblum, Veronica Cartwright and Leonard Nimoy as ever Spock like as the New Age shrink--we get off beat thriller with overtones of dark humor. The humorous puns at the age of conscicousness fall right in the line with the impending horror of the situation that the main characters fall into. This is what marks this remake or revisonist film of the original a little different. Also of course with a higher budget, we get some pretty good gross out effects particularly when Sutherland and Adams run over one of the pods. Jazz composer/musician Denny Zeitlin's score also accentuates ... Read More

Ive seen this flick a hundred times... but never in the threatre. Bought it for me brother for his b-day. We watched it on his new 60" 1080P plasma from about 6' back. The video was a bit grainy, and the blacks were a bit washed out in a couple scenes, but the sound was very clean. All that aside - what really matters is that I was totally involved in this movie; almost like seeing it again for the first time. Stan Winston's wizardry was as stunning and seemless as my best memories of it. C.G. can look phony or dated (!) on the new high rez formats, but the best of the tried and true old school methods still kick butt! Highly recommended for fans of the genre. If you haven't seen this movie before GET IT! You won't be disappointed.

VHS : Enemy Mine
Being in a mood for science fiction, I settled in to watch Enemy Mine as it opened with a good old-fashioned space battle, never imagining I would be moved to tears more than once before this most unexpectedly heart-touching film came to an end. I don't think I've shed a science-fiction related tear since E.T., but Enemy Mine is just an indescribably beautiful and moving film. Heck, I think I even like Dennis Quaid now, but Lou Gossett, Jr., turned in an even more remarkable performance than Quaid. The man should have been nominated for an Oscar, in my opinion.

As I alluded to already, this futuristic film opens in a time of war. Humans may have achieved peace on earth by 2092, but their competition with the reptilian Drac race over colonization of a certain galaxy has erupted into full-scale interstellar ... Read More
