This is one of those movies that appeals to old sci-fi B movie lovers. The effects are weak but, are very familiar of the time and genre. The dinosaurs effects run from OK to pretty silly, they use a variety of techniques from real lizards shot with miniatures, a man in a T-Rex suit and a sea serpent that looked like a puppet of some sort. The acting is typical also. If you are like me and can't resist these old B Sci-Fi flicks than you will be pleased to know this is available on Ultimate Sci-Fi classic collection volume 2. The DVD transfer is very good and there are a total of 5 films in the set.

The Irwin Allen movie is a bit cheesey, but the print is good. The silent version accompanying it is better dramatically and is very well preserved.

If you are wondering if your children will love it... they WILL! And you will too. Our son (19 months) is as smitten with this version as he is with the original Peter Pan. It has a wonderful touching story line also and Disney has done a superb job on all accounts. Thank you for bringing Wendy's daughter Jane to the big screen!

This is a wounderful movie and still holds up after all these years. Why one star? Well it isnt the movie, its fantastic!....Alot of people complain about the Special Effects. ....It dosent need any. The origional movie was filmed in "Super Panivision" 1:35:1 aspect ratio, and has been reduced to 1:33 VHS. watching this version, will at best give you a headace. Can you imagine driving thru the Red Woods wearing horse blinders, your view would be drastically altered. The special effects are the Splendor, Grandios, and giant set pieces. When I saw this on VHS I got dizzy from all the Pan and scan needed to reduce it to VHS size. Most of the best set pieces are seriouslly cropped, and the destruction seen, is reduced to a mild storm. You are only seeing about 1/4 of the action, and magnificent sets that cover the entire screen. ... Read More

As a child during the time these came out, I found this brought me right back to my childhood. This flashback was so wonderful for me that I had to have my children watch it and now they understand the magic of H. R. Pufnstuf. They, like myself, can not wait until the next video is released.
