This is a GREAT film, borrowing from BLADE RUNNER, THE TERMINATOR, MAD MAX, and slasher films -- but with its own unique story and style. Beautiful cinematography, wonderful soundtrack (with both classical opera and industrial/punk rock scores).

I won't relate the story, as other reviewers have done so. BUT if you're buying the "Uncut Red Edition," there are some issues you should be aware of.

* This "Eurocult" DVD claims it's uncut, "unlike American DVD and VHS editions." Not true. Yes, this Uncut Red Edition may be uncut, but it contained no scenes that I hadn't seen in my American tape edition. Maybe some tapes were cut, but not all.

* More importantly, this DVD is FULL SCREEN. I'd hoped to see HARDWARE's beautiful cinematography in its wide screen ... Read More

VHS : Terminal Man
Of all the popular authors of recent years, Michael Crichton has to be the one with the most uneven track record of film adaptation. Success with material like "The Andromeda Strain" and "Jurassic Park," and even TV's "ER," is tempered by sludge like "Congo" and this near disaster. Should only be viewed by film students who want to learn how NOT to make a film.

The premise is that a man named Harry Benson (George Segal) has suffered a brain injury that causes seizures resulting in uncontrollable violent behavior. He volunteers to undergo implantation of a "limbic pacer," which is kind of like a pacemaker but it's in the brain, controlling the seizures. Naturally the procedure (first ever in a human) doesn't work, and we see the disastrous results of said failure.

Always been a fan of the 2001 series and finally having the capability to watch 2001 on blu ray has made all the better. After I picking up the movie I popped it in to check to make sure it worked and everything was perfect, not only did it look crisp and clean but I couldn't even turn it off until I forced myself to say ok you have class get to it. A good buy and worth the time.

VHS : Lawnmower Man (Unrated)
If no one has heard of The Lawnmower Man series, this movie was a considered a breakthrough in movie magic in its time during the early 90's. Many people say this was the TRON movie of its era heavy on special effects and blazing visuals never seen in movie theaters. This was true and The Lawnmower Man was astounding when it first came out however it somehow lost its appeal since the special effects actually bring down the movie.

VHS : The Matrix Reloaded
The sequel to the global phenomenon hit The Matrix has more entertainment and mind-boggling, technically innovative special effects. Here Neo (Keanu Reeves), Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) struggle to continue their fight to save Zion from invading machines. This is one sequel that truly lives up to expectations and triumphs where other fail by bigger and better fight scenes (including the impressive freeway chase sequences) and character design and at the same time still remaining cleverly focused on the plotting sequences.

However this film seem confusing at times and made some fight scenes meaningless, making this the only downfall to this fantastic sequel which lead to astonishing repercussions that made Reloaded an explosive hit with critics and hardcore fans alike. As the centerpiece ... Read More

VHS : The Matrix - Standard Collector's Edition
Beginning this review I was writing the film's title and ended up with "The Mainstream" (100% accident) which pretty much sums up the premise of The Matrix franchise. The Matrix is good in the fact that it takes complex science-fiction from previous 1990s films that didn't quite meet mainstream audiences (Dark City, 12 Monkeys) and merges it with the spectacular CGI effects of an action film. As an action film The Matrix is incredibly successful and deserves great recognition as one of the best films of the 1990s, or the past two decades for that matter. However I do feel let down by the fact that I felt cheated by the story when they didn't try to further flesh out the world it took place in.

My main problem with the film falls on the fact that, as an avid sci-fi fan, I had already seen most of the concepts The Matrix presented in ... Read More

Stay away from this ugly pan and scan and instead consider MGM's European PAL region 2 version (if your DVD player can handle it) - The PAL 2 is a near perfect, beautiful, anamorphic wide screen. You can find the PAL copy at Amazon UK or I bought mine from xploitedcinema.com. Colossus's plausible plot combines three elements - the cold war, computers running amuck, and a doomsday scenario. Many similar elements can be found in War Games, Star Trek (VGER), Andromeda Strain, Doctor Strangelove, The Day The Earth Stood Still and Fail Safe. The basic ideas and premise, acting, directing, and set design work well together and make for an exciting and thoughtful film. I particularly liked when the computer's first start to chat with each other and their tantrum-like demand for communication. Colossus never earned classic status - my guess that was due to a trite sounding ... Read More

A fascinating film that brings together several genres and also several influences. First the technical level of virtual reality and computerized graphics. Interesting though not exceptionally original (see for one example The Lawnmower Man). Second the Japanese, Chinese, Honk Kong, Kung Fu type of action. There it is in a way renewed because it is grafted onto, into or under another type of post-apocalyptic vision that is typically American: underground resistance (with one of the archetypes being the Terminator trilogy, or The Running Man) or people who refuse the modern slavery imposed by the corporate trust that governs and controls the world, through dependence on data-processing machines that create a nervous disorder that is both incurable and catching. The models of this underground vision are numerous. Here he sets it in the guts of an old decaying bridge, so over-ground ... Read More

It's ok to watch, but unless you got something better to do, don't. The really only redeaming things are the wife and son's preformances are good, but the other characters are grating. The story is long and kinda dull. And this coputer who doesn't uderstand alot of human words, has emotions? Lots of plot loop holes and bad acting.
