VHS : Robin Hood (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
As with many stories, this one comes from several versions, even within the Disney group. This is basically the version I remembered of the animated presentations of Robin Hood. Look for some of the Robin Hood cliches, like the arrow splitting the arrow already in the bulls eye (Can this really be done? Check with the Myth Busters!)

Sherwood Forest may be close to home. During one of the fight scenes, I distinctly heard the "fight song" "On Wisconsin." How did this end up in the movie? Was this some kind of product placement?

Buy it. Enjoy it. Give a copy to a kid you know. Keep a copy for the kid you are.

VHS : Hercules (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
Disney released its 35th full-length film in early 1997 and much like all Disney films be prepared for musical numbers to tell the story.....but they are done by Alan Menken....so it isn't all that bad. The plot is set early in the film: Hades wishes to over-throw Mt. Olympus and imprison the legendary gods that live atop the mystical mountain. So Hades summons the sisters of fate to predict the outcome - their forecast is anything but reassuring. A child will be born on Olympus that will defeat Hades' plot - if Hercules fights Hades will lose. So Hades sends his to loyal henchmen, Pain and Panic, to steal the baby from Zeus and feed him an elixir that will remove the young Hercules' godhood and allow Hades to kill the newborn. Well, in typical style, Pain and Panic, botch the assignment and Hercules ... Read More

VHS : Harry Potter & Sorcerer's Stone
I still remember the day the first Harry Potter movie came out in the mall. I was nearby the movie theater entrance when I heard a voice say "The Harry Potter movies first showing is starting now" than I saw a mob of elementary school kids rampaging their way to the theater and I was in their way. After the dvd came out I decided to buy it just to see what the excitement was all about and I was astonished at how much I enjoyed the movie. After that I decided to but the first book and have since gotten the entire seven books of Harry Potter as well as the five movies that have so far been made. The first blur-ray dvd video and audio isn't to much better than the standard version. Some of the background is a little clearer and sharper but in all not to much of a difference and the same can be said ... Read More

VHS : Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
After the phenomenal success of J.K. Rowling's first four Harry potter novels and the first Harry potter film, there was no doubt that the boy wizard would be returning to the big screen. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, we are given a darker tale that explores the pasts of Hogwarts' students and professors. It was with this story that author J.K Rowling first began to experience a backlash from more conservative parents. Most were disturbed by the themes of death and violence, which Rowling insisted was her way of being more realistic and that by including these themes her books would be grounded in a universal reality. However some parents did not accept her explanation. They even went so far as to suggest that Satanism and a belief in witchcraft inspired the Harry Potter books and films. At ... Read More
