VHS : A Fine Romance (Episodes 10-18)
I couldn't agree less with the review of A Fine Romance that puts it second to As Time Goes By. In fact, I started out enjoying Time, but soon tired of the glib, constantly facile (terribly rehearsed-seeming) patter between the love interests. It seemed they were always trying to outdo each other. While I am willing to consider the possibility that by the time I was watching it they had begun to tire of it themselves, I can't help thinking it was less satisfying than Romance. I just learned that Dame Judi and Michael Williams were married. Now I know why they seemed wonderfully suited for one another. When I see this show I pull for them, because the "chemistry" is so amazing.

A fine Romance whips the socks off of As Time Goes By.

VHS : Road To Avonlea - A Fine Romance
The common denominator of these two episodes from "Road to Avonlea" are the romantic dreams of Felicity King (Gema Zamprogna) brought back down to earth by Gus Pike (Michael Mahonen). If you have read Lucy Maud Montgomery's two books "The Story Girl" and "The Golden Road" by Lucy Maud Montgomery, from which most of the characters of "Road to Avonlea" were taken, then you recall that despite her snobbish pretensions and high airs, Felicity King was fated to end up marrying the poor boy who worked on the King family farm. However, the series created a new character to be Felicity's intended and we see two pivotal episodes in their relationship on "A Fine Romance."

From the show's second season, "How Kissing Was Discovered" begins with Janet King's Great-Aunt Eliza coming for a visit and turning ... Read More

VHS : A Fine Romance (Episodes 19-26)
Judi Dench is a joy to watch and together with her in-real-life husband Michael Williams they are a perfect foil for each other. While sometimes it appears a bit dated the co-stars and guest stars produce a wonderful series. The whole four part series is a must view for anyone who really enjoys good british programming. I have purchased the whole series because I had such great memories from watching it in the eighties. I must say it does not disappoint. The comic timing is pure genius.
A must view.
