This video is not usable. There is a lot of static/background noise; the picture rolls vertically on a continual basis. We tried the video on more than one machine, We do not have this problem with any other videos in our collection. We would like a replacement or a refund.
Thank you....LJSumption

VHS : Richard III (1955) (Ws)

One of the greatest movies of the 1950s and in fact of all time, Laurence Olivier took Shakespeare's historic classic and turned it into a stunning masterpiece.
As for those who criticize the movie for it's slight departures from the written play, they obviously do not understand the versatility inherent in Shakespeare which allows for rich adaptation.
The movie begins with the last scene of Henry VI, with a fawning Richard, Earl of Gloucester (Laurence Olivier) ingratiating himself with the new King Edward IV (Cedric Hardwicke).
It is in the next scene where we view Richard's famous soliloquy: "Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this sun of York, And all the clouds that glower'd upon our house in the deep bosom of the ocean buried". ... Read More

VHS : A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Widescreen Edition)
I love Richard Lester's style of direction( Hard Day's Night, The Ritz, Three Muskateer's etc). Zero Mostel in a role that rivals his performance in the Producer's will have you rolling on the floor. Phil Silvers is at his best as a wheeler dealer. The Roman Empire lasted in spite of the shenanigans here. A story of mixed up love and misdirection. Will they pull it off or will they fall to the conquerer who raped Thrace thrice? Anyway it's a very funny movie at a greta price.

This musical "The Music Man" Starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Ron Howard & others has always been one of my all time favorite musical's. I have this VHS film of this movie, which i have had for a long time. It's a Great Musical, but do yourself a favor & buy it now on DVD & make sure you get the one on Widescreen. In my opinion, it makes all the difference in the world as far as Quality goes to be able to have it on Widescreen period. This is definitely true for the Classic Epic Film's.

Julie Andrews delivers, as usual, but to actually see her deliver on the stage is incredible! Being a theater buff, to have a video of her in this stage version of the original Blake Edwards movie is the find of a life-time. And, of course, the supporting cast is great too! I miss "The Shady Dame of Seville" number, and I think its replacement is not quite so exciting. This DVD is a great addition to any broadway afficionado's collection!

VHS : Monty Python's Life of Brian (Widescreen Edition)
The Python's most complete work. Packed with one-liners, a good plot, real pathos at the end and a message, "You don't need me, you don't need anyone!" which has even more relevance now than when it was originally released.

Should be compulsory viewing

Some have quibbles with the quality of the visuals on this DVD, but every version has some problems, because the film this was made from was almost lost ... I'm jut happy to be able to see it in any form - it's a really important moment of ballet & ballet film history.

4 ballets here, all very different, with different strengths.
The Diamond Muncher - an unusual "modern" fable with marvelous melodies, especially the pas de duex. With Zizi Jeanmaire
Cyranno - A lyric production that uses techniqes developed by the Archers, some slow-mo layering in the night time sequence... so very fitting to have Moira Shearer play Roxanne in this. This one has really memororable visuals.
24 hour mourning - Is a truly funny story of a gold-digger played with fantastic articulation and fun by gorgeous ... Read More
